TR Frankenbot 2017

Fri Sep 29, 2017 6:26 pm

Any interest? October is right around the corner. I see the 800,000 volt wake-up jolt:

I know my own small PCs are ready.

Would you mind helping out during Frankie's month?

I'll be switching my rig over this weekend. That'll add about 600,000+ points per day.

Edit: No time like the present. Switched.

And already seeing the results, nice. I'm logging 600-700k per day, mostly from the main machine as the HTPC is weak 8)

Holy smoke, the driver update has managed to make my Vega 64 crank out ~900K-1M PPD. :o That's on the heels of the 1080Ti/Titan X Pascal. Frankie got a nice boost from it.

I am thinking of replacing one of my GTX 980s with a 1080 Ti, but it probably can't happen until well after October. Then a second one in a few months.

I don't know how well the drivers work for F@H and my rendering applications. I want to be seeing success stories before I drop any coin on that little project.

It's looking like we will be able to surpass last October's point total. Hopefully we can sustain >2M PPD!

Passed 50% of last year, 50.2% 8) but unfortunately it took us 50.4 47.2% of this month to do so :(

Edit was less than a minute later, leaving my error here in case anyone was ninja-fast enough to see it.

I've got some free CPU time on one of my nodes.. it isn't loads of free cycles, but it's additional cycles. I'd be happy to contribute, but not sure how.

Passkey: This is a hash key that Frankenbot uses so you can get bonuses for certain workloads. PM someone in this thread (not me) and they can send it to you. Just input it where it asks for it in the software. Should be very simple. DO NOT CHANGE IT. IF YOU FORGET OR LOSE IT, ASK SOMEONE FOR IT AGAIN. :)

The setup process is infinitely easier than it was 7 or 8 years ago. If you're even moderately savvy when it comes to computers you should be fine.

We need to consolidate within team Tech Report. The team TR ranking list has about 5.5M ppd in the top 7 independent folders that isn't going to frankie. Of which, doesn't Fuzz typically fold for frankie?

He's in last year's thread and based on his chart he fired up for October after taking September off. Bummer, that's 20M points this month that Frankie hasn't gotten credit for.

If it's not Dr. Frankie Stein, then I don't know the answer either. :P

But there are a few dozen folks here who can PM the passkey if anybody needs it. We just don't publish it in the open because we don't want to get in trouble with Pande labs or the F@H administrators.

Side Note, which I also posted to the Windows 10 Build 1709 thread:

If/when you upgrade your Windows 10 folding rig to build 1709, please be sure to check the F@H client after your upgrade to 1709. If the GPU slots are failing, then you may need to reinstall your GPU drivers, especially if you're using Geforce GPUs.

I just ran Geforce Experience to reinstall the drivers that Microsoft knocked out of commission with the OS upgrade. It seems to have worked and I didn't need to reboot or reinstall F@H.

Although my fans or pump now seem to be making noise. :o :-?

At current production rates, Frankie might put another 28-30 million points on the board, all within the next 10 days. I think I remember we did 16 million in the WHOLE MONTH back when I joined. That's amazing.

Re: TR Frankenbot 2017

Earlier this morning I uploaded my second 207 point WU for Frankie, woohoo! 414 points sure isn't much to show for the better part of four days of folding and definitely not the tens of thousands of points per day I had been expecting from my GTX 550Ti (thanks again lhr!). From the get go everything "looked" good in the advanced control panel, but the 7.4.4 client wasn't able to download a GPU work unit for the 01 slot that correctly listed the 550Ti? I downloaded GPU-Z and verified that my sneaker-netted driver had indeed enabled OpenCL, I added the F@h port to the firewall exceptions, I shut off the firewall, I shutdown completely and restarted with the firewall shut off, and I reinstalled the 7.4.4 auto-magic client, still no GPU WU. I was about to try another nearly four hour download of the client, but decided to check the foldingforum.org website. Six pages into the 7.4.4 forum I found a thread with my problem and discovered that F@h had f***ed me again. In June of 2016 they dropped GPU support for 32bit OSes for reasons! Eventually I plan to sneaker-net Ubuntu and dual boot as the Linux client now supports GPU folding.

I have a virgin GTX 650Ti and win7 disc plus enough parts to build several systems. I hope to steal the time to build a new GPU cruncher and sneaker-net a 64bit driver before the witch's sabbath. Wish me luck, I'll need it.
