Nice post; awesome content!
Be careful on inserting this (or any G34 chip) into the socket. Once you pull that restraining lever, it is either a good install or a piece of silicon jewelry.

What's the deal with folding these days? CPU's, GPU's?

What sort of PPD would an R7 2700 get, or RX 570?

I had a RX 570 folding last month and it was getting well over 200K PPD. It was an MSI card that ran quietly. I hope that the new owner will run folding on it as well!

For the 2700, no idea. I recall some projects did very well in PPD if there was tons of threads (not sure if 16 threads is enough for that...?).

p.s. I use on idle/high setting - so it only folds when I'm not on the computer plus with quiet fans ... quite nice for me!

Cool! Let us know how it goes.

For threads you can set maximum. Can do it manually in the config file. Also can use predefined setting such as if set to low power it uses half the threads. I took a quick look via google and it seemed to vary significantly by project, some low as 40k and other projects more than twice that.
Note If use GPU folding, that needs its own thread.
Keep folding!

Haven't folded in nearly 5 years. Curious about this new V7 client and the web viewer. We shall see! The interwebz agrees with your 40k-80kppd estimates.

Gonna go CPU only. Mine is silent under full load, and my RX570 needs a complete tear-down and dusting before i throw that kind of workload at it.

Yikes!

Running my R7 2700 (non-X) at stock speeds/voltages in Linux Mint with the 4.19 kernel and getting the following performance on CPU-folding only:

A4 cores are 80-95kppd
A7 cores are 105-125kppd

Wow! I imagined the sixteen thread Ryzens would do well with SMP work units, but those are Very impressive numbers. My A64 4000 X2 does 750 to 800 ppd on an a4 core depending on how many browser tabs I have open. Yep, not even one k ppd. I really Must find the time to sneakernet a 64bit distro for the GTX 550Ti idling in the PCIe slot.

And yes, the biggest ppd on the table are the GPU work units. All one needs are an Open CL capable video card, a 64bit OS, the current folding client, and an Open CL enabling video driver. Neither of the driver disks that came in the box with my GTX 550Ti or my GTX 650Ti enabled Open CL.

I imagine you are using the latest 7.5.1 client, but just in case here is a link to the most popular OS clients including Mint. - https://foldingathome.org/alternative-downloads/

Back in the 7.4.4 client days I read a post on foldingforum.org that said the GPU slot didn't like the CPU slot configured for an odd number of cores, even though the client defaults to a config of -1 for GPU use. It may have been resolved with a later version, but it wouldn't hurt to test with a -2 or even a -4 config for maximum overall ppd.

Congrats on jumping into the top twenty ppd team 2630 members list! - https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com ... ?s=&t=2630
