My 9700K and RX Vega 64 are projecting 1.2-1.5 million PPD. I suspect AVX2 is allowing the CPU to pull in more weight over my previous 3570K (which lacked it) then simply having twice amount of cores.

Let's see if Frankie can reach 100 million this year.

Are there enough left to bother?

(Also, my RX Vega 56 bit the dust this summer, and sadly I don't think the RX 580 is up to much.)

Krogoth, Thank You for giving TRFrankenbot a kick in the pants! Your efforts makes a total of nine active team 2630 folders. Maybe the cooler weather forecast will fire up most of the faithful. Monday and Tuesday we broke high temp records that went back to 1897, but for the next seven days they say highs in the sixties up here in the USA armpit.

Topinio, sorry to hear about your Vega 56. Don't sell your 580 short, I plan to shop for one in the near future. I think with a slight under-clock a 580 should make decent points with reasonable temps. Heck, my effort in the next few days will (I hope) be a GTX650Ti, if I can revive my bricked i5-750 or master a Kubuntu 18.04.3 dual boot learning curve!

Damn, I hate typing on my Nook HD+! My browsing laptop also recently bricked.

It was 98 °F here yesterday. We're also breaking record highs for the month of October going back to the 19th century.

What's the latest word on compute driver/compiler fixes for Navi? Things weren't great when the first RDNA graphics cards were released in July. Radeon RX 5700XT is currently unsupported for Folding @Home. Will the situation get better when the second set of RDNA cards (based on smaller Navi) is released next week?

Yep, according to foldingforum.org they are still working on a folding core compatible with the navi version of openCL.

Folding uses OpenCL codebase for AMD RTG GPUs. I'm not sure why RDNA-stuff wouldn't work. It isn't a radical departure from GCN, but their performance isn't going to be good (AMD RTG gimped some raw FP performance to re-balance the CUs).

Dang, sorry to hear that when F@h finally comes up with a working core the 5000 series is probably gonna suck at folding.

edit - It seems almost like an Intel level of product segmentation. Forcing GPU compute workload users to buy a work station video card or a Nvidia card.

Maybe I'll fire up the 580 after all. (I debated a 5700 XT or a RTX 2060 Super, once Sapphire finally confirmed the Vega was unrepairable and gave me the rebate, but the latter doesn't work with my FreeSync screen and if the former doesn't fold ... maybe I'll get a Vega 64?)

Preliminary compute performance performance of Radeon RX 5700 XT was reported as similar to Radeon RX 580. The release-day driver quality was described as “raw”.

I’m not endorsing the GeForce RTX 2060^SUPER at its high price on a 12 nm process, but it should support FreeSync on your monitor.

Disappointing from AMD, but not as much as from BenQ: I'm still on f/w V001 because mine doesn't do the ghosting that people reported and was fixed in V002 in IIRC June 2015, and I haven't so far been able to tolerate being without my monitor for 2-3 weeks while doing the RTB thing for its non-user flashable firmware.

According to some people on the interwebs, I'd need f/w V005 to not have the XL2730Z fail with NVIDIA cards and FreeSync

Nvidia has been going in that direction since Fermi. Volta was their first dedicated GPGPU design and upcoming Ampere is the intended successor. GCN has always been always been general compute first and graphical prowess second. That's mostly why GCN has been unable to compete against Maxwell and derivatives on efficiency and performance-scale. RDNA restructured CUs to make it more viable for graphical loads (RDNA is AMD RTG's Maxwell). Classical GCN will continue the general compute route. Turing is just a tweaked Volta with a different memory controller (GDDR6)
