Top 10!!!!

Fri Aug 09, 2002 5:19 pm

After 5 weeks of intensive work and upgrading I've made it to the Top 10 of the TR Folding Gerbils. Vanity post required ;).

Of course, I saw what JrdBeau is running for his farm and I'm finding myself destined never to hit #1 , but I'll settle for #2 ;).

The next challenge will be to make it to #5 before JrdBeau runs us all over. ;)

You are soooooo right

Anyone want to give me 1% of a winning lottery ticket so I can fill a rack with Dual 1U Athlon servers. I promise to fold on all of them :D.

Your bargaining posture is highly dubious.

Don't feel too bad, JrdBeau will probably knock me back out of the Top 10 by then end of the weekend :(. But I should be back soon enough :).

Hey guys,

I don't know how high I am going to get on the TR list. I am running the client on 50 machines right now but I don't know how long I can keep the farm up. This project that I am working on is very flaky. Some days we use 85-90% of our machines and other days we use 0%. All the software for the project is coded in-house so the amount of bugs is staggering. This usually ends up causing the project to come to a screeching halt for up to a month while they go back to the drawing board. This is my folding period. I should be good to go for at least another 2 weeks but then I might have to shutdown for a while (at least until the next round of bugs hit!)

Didn't mean to step on anyones toes by racing to the top. I know you guys worked hard to get where you are, mostly with your own $$$. I tip my hat to that. I am just lucky enough to work for a project with a blank check when it comes to hardware.

Let's just say that Google is a direct competitor of our project I would love to race right past them in this thing!

well, just remember folding only takes unused computing cycles and a few megs of ram, you might be able to just leave it on. won't do much good, but you won't have to go through any effort to start or stop it

Well for me top 10 is now just "been there, done that". I am more interested in seeing the whole team break into the top 10 (teams). Besides competition seems to get more Work Units completed. :D

Don't worry you won't knock me out the Top 10 for long and besides this is about making the whole team better, not individual competition. I think I speak for all when I say, we may have pissing contests about processors and such, but it's all with a ;) and a :D. Besides, I only own about 8 of my 20+ processors anyway :).

Let's break into the Top 10 by the end of the year and see where it goes from there.

about 8? you've lost track already!

i've got 4 online in my room, and 1 more as soon as i get around to finding a power cable and i feel like installing win 2k on it (if it works). it's only a p2 233, so it's good for about 4 points a week

Yarbo, I buy and sell computers on a weekly basis. I get leftovers from clients, combine the bits into a new box, throw the folding client on it until I sell it, and lather, rinse, repeat.

Right now I have 3 boxes that are in this state, a Duron 700, a K6-2/400, and a P2/233. Next week, who knows?

Yeah well, Howard is doing his darndest to hold up the team and personally get them up over at least 400 again  . Hard work trying to recruit others and I'm trying to get an XBox working. I'm officially nuts.

It is with great sadness that I must shutdown my Dual Athlon 1600MP and my two Dual XEON P4 systems for Network maintenance over the holiday

It just means I will have to work harder to re-capture the number 5 spot when you pass me Howard.

#1 and #2 are going to be difficult spots to take from Steel and I.
We don't plan on giving them up without a huge fight.

I'm adding 4 high end machines next week. I think I can start to whittle away on Steel's 500+ point lead over me.

For those of you who have me in your sights;

Wasn't it The Rock who said "Just Bring It"? 8)
