My team is in a significant slump.

Our average PPD has declined precipitously, and our total active contributors numbers well under 200, now.

But for the present, my output ranks #6 on our team, the once-impressive Team 2630.

Thanks. :-) Well, I am running one instance of the nVidia GPU client and one instance of the single-threaded CPU client. Using Windows XP Pro SP3. How do I find out my ppd per each client?

FahMon.

If your GPU client CPU usage is low enough, may be you can try the SMP CPU client to boost your ppd? ;)

I looked at your production chart on the EOC stats page and you are heading to the 7000 ppd range if you hold stead on your production. Good numbers OndrejSc! :P

Who-hoo! I'm back in the TR Top 20 producers list (barely), for the first time since I retired the crate farm ~3 years ago.

Now if I can just get that Opteron 165 going again... I think I may have a DFI Socket 939 board I can use for that.

I notice my 8400 quad downloaded the first A2 core WU I've seen in weeks. It's claiming 5700.62 PPD, which is slightly better than any A3 that I've seen has done on that thing. Also, because of the generally good speed of that processor, I will have gotten 3 WU's submitted by it today, which is nice. 8)

I should correct my post. I noticed today that a Project 6013 on the quad went quickly, producing about 6400 PPD with bonus if the 4:44 frame times I saw were the actual average, though that figure always excludes upload times and other waiting the client does, which together would produce ~4:45 frame times and ~6368 PPD.

Perhaps if I had better cooling in that machine's case and a better HSF combo, I might be able to get a faster OC (now running at 3168 MHz, which is the same I had the slower C2D 6400 at [stock 2133 MHz compared to the 8400's stock 2666 MHz] which makes me wonder if it's the motherboard more than the processor). I'll research that in the coming days.

P6013 is so messed up. There's no credit given for anything delivered past the preferred deadline. So you'd think they really care about meeting the deadline. But PPD on the P6013 sucks so bad. So which is it? Is meeting the deadline important or not? I think projects without an extension shouldn't be allowed to have the same preferred deadlines as the others with comparable computation.

That seems strange. My 6013 produced as high as anything I recall having seen, though I've by no means done a survey of all of the WU's submitted by the processor. The deadline not being met means you can still turn in the WU, but you just won't get bonus points for it. That's the incentive to get the most folding work possible out of the processor as soon as you can.

You can use FahMon/HFM.NET's "benchmark" function for that, no?

I quit using HFM because it wasn't behaving well, though I haven't tried the latest update. As for FahMon, yeah I could do that, but sometimes the minimum times it reports are outliers, and because I used the old entry for the previous processor for the upgrade, its average is quite a bit off, now. And even if everything was fine, it still would require me to plug in the numbers to the calculator to get the true PPD.

And now my Crucial Ballistix memory (which were RMA replacements of the last set that had errors) seems to be giving me errors again. I had 2 WU's die on me today after finishing successfully and then giving FILE_IO_ERROR or whatever fah6 calls it, and it restarted a bunch of times and died. I had to restart the machine today and I think it'll probably puke again soon. That's 6 bad sticks from Crucial. I'm never buying non-Corsair again unless there's a really good reason for it.

Thanks! It was a nice goal to make. Been watching the rankings count down, but hadn't really thought about now being on the first page. Top 100!

PPD will be increasing today. The GTX295 is in action. I forgot how loud these things are. Wonder how long I'll be able to stand it....

I'm still amazed at how much power these things eat. I'd like to get rid of at least 2 of my machines, including my main one which has become less reliable because of its extended lifespan, and replace them with something with greater output but using less power. I'm just not sure what the best idea is, not having kept up well with what's current and what's being released when.

I think by far the best bang for the buck/watt is running the BIGADV units on an SMP client in UNIX. This would be with an i7 CPU overclocked. You'll need:

i7 920 or 930
X58 mobo (Newegg often has an ASrock mobo open box for around $100)
6GB of ram

This will do more than 20K PPD.

If you want to go the videocard route I think the GT240 is the best bang for the buck/watt. It gets about 4000PPD and uses about 40 watts over the idle power draw of your PC. (100 points per watt)

I think the i7-8xx with HT can do the -bigadv too?

Yep, although the money you save will be somewhat offset by having to buy 8GB ram, and you may not be able to OC as high if you fill all the RAM slots on the mobo (you need 5GB dedicated to the UNIX environment to run BIGADV units).
