With that kind of horsepower, I'd be inclined to recommend running the SMP client plus the GPU client together. Those two clients would be churning out points like there's no tomorrow. :P The downside is that they're both in beta and may need some monitoring on a regular basis to ensure that they're working properly. If you want something that just works and doesn't require any babysitting, use the regular console client, though you should install four instances since you have a quad core. The downside to the regular client is that the points gained will not be as much as either the SMP nor the GPU clients.. but then again, this endeavor is for the good of science, so any contribution would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to post any questions you may have and we'll be glad to try to answer them for you. Good luck!

Actually if you feel like experimenting for us, try these combos and report back on the ppd numbers.
- 4x single core regular console clients
- 3x single core regular console clients + GPU client
- SMP (Windows) client
- GPU client
- SMP (Windows) + GPU client
- 2x Linux SMP clients under VMware
- 2x LInux SMP clients under VMware + GPU client (arguably one of the Linux VM will be suffering, and that's the point on the experiment)
- 1 Linux SMP client under VMware + GPU client + single core regular client
- 1 Linux SMP client under VMware + GPU client + one idle core to do your own stuff (this is to compare the single core client to see if it is worth it in the face of already big ppd)

The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.

I'm running a Q9300 @ stock and a 8800GTS 512MB (MSI factory OCed).
via FahMon:
GPU2 - 5100 PPD (core 3) 25% CPU usage on the quad
VMware w/Linux SMP - 1500 PPD (core 0 and 1) ~35% usage
VMware w/Linux SMP - 1200 PPD (core 1 and 2) ~35% usage
Windows Console 6 beta - 100 PPD (core 0,1,2) 5% usage

I tried not overlapping the VMware w/Linux SMP clients but the GPU2 had some big hits.
Without the console client there was ~5% cpu usage idle alternating on either core 0 or 2.

I tried stopping my lower PPD VMware session and running the Windows Console 6 beta on core 2. I think it was like 600 or 700 PPD (100% of core 2). The first VMware SMP PPD did increase to 1800 but it still didn't make up for the 1200ppd on the second VMware SMP. Although I didn't test it for that long. Think FahMon would have reported better PPD if I had left it running longer?
And are there any issues reading PPD of a Linux SMP client in VMware with FahMon regarding accuracy?
