UNSTABLE_MACHINE

Hey everyone, I've been looking through my log file and I've noticed that I've had 3 Gromacs GPUv2 cores cut out early (some really early, one was at ~50%) with an "UNSTABLE_M ACHINE" error. Now, my computer seems to be fine. CPU temps are normal for folding load (~50C) and my GPU is running around 80C. So I don't think that could be it. Are we talking bad RAM here, or is there something else that could be causing it to cut out early?

edit: Add in two more, for today. I'm gonna try putting my room's box fan blowing into the case with the door off to see if that helps.

Try lowering your GPU% to something that keeps your temps lower, then if you still have issues maybe it's a temp problem.

Are you overclocking?

It could be the Vram getting the data corrupt. Although the folding is mainly shader intensive so maybe underclock the Vram instead of setting CPU% lower.

Well, it's an XFX model that's factory overclocked (730/1134 core/vram). What's the best tools to use to underclock these days? nTune?

Note: Since placing a fan next to it, I haven't errored out. It seems to have dropped the GPU core temp about 5C. We'll see if it lasts overnight.

Well, that hope just went out the window this weekend. It started erroring out again on WU's, though not as often. So I decided to install nTune and use that to underclock. Biggest mistake ever there, damn thing locked up my system. I had to hard reboot to get out of it, and that in turn hosed everything. Settings for almost every single program were set back to default, and some just magically disappeared. I rebooted to safemode and did a system restore from there, and now things are working okay.

Anyone have any other suggestions for software to underclock?

Yeah, RivaTuner is a good utility. I am using it to overclock my 8800 GTS, but not anything close to your stock numbers. :D

You can also try installing a fan that blows diredtly accross your video card to help carry away the heat. The GPU2 client generates lots of heat. :o
