they're gaining on us!!!

i don't know if anyone else noticed but we're being tailed by TSC! Russia and they're 1.4weeks away from taking over our #9 spot

we're quite outnumbered in terms of members but the more startling fact is that we've only got 310 active users (does that mean only 310 of us are contributing to the effort???)

310 out of a possible 2712 members :o :-? that doesn't bode well...

i'm still waiting on the GPU client for ATI to have proper CAL dlls and til then i can't double my output (assuming that the GPU client can get me 3000+++ PPD)

cmon guys...at least 500 of the 2712 member should be able to keep TSC! Russia at bay!

you make a good point. I've recently joined and my 4k ppd should help, but we need more people!

every little bit helps definitely and i (as well as the rest of the team i'm sure) thank you for your kind contribution towards the effort

gerbils alike we've gotta band together and keep our #9 spot from being taken, this is too close for comfort!

By christmas I should have anouther 5k PPD rig set up. That should bump me to a minimum of 10k points a day.

Their daily gain on us is more than our total output.

They are gaining at a rate of 832,000 points/day.... I am getting 4800ppd out of an 8800gs, so it would take 174 more folders with one 8800gs to level the field.

Probably doable, but I just hope we don't lose.

Its really sad when I put in one 8800gs, and one 8800GT and alone they produce more points than 13 smp rigs. The TR team has been overhauled by the point flood from gpu folding.

Unless they come out with a linux gpu port, then notfreds fine effort is becoming deprecated. I already have 30+ units that's not even worth turning on, because one 8800gs will produce more points.

My 9500 phenom is worth about 2700ppd, and my e6300 running 2.97ghz is only good for about 2200ppd combined they are woth 4900 ppd which is just a little more than the 8800gs, and I havent tried to MAX the oc on the gs yet.

Cass, there's some development using Wine to get the GPU2 client working in Linux; I'm not sure how successful this effort has been but perhaps you can give it a read. Most of that stuff discussed in that thread is over my head but I'm sure you can sort it out better than I can. :-?

Heeeyyyyyyy, if this was easy to set up I might be up for a dedicated folding rig tucked away in a close or something.

Oh hell, I might try it, but I doubt it would be soon. linux 64 bit is a very large and troublesome pain in the ass. I would probably just try a 32 bit install and go from there since apparently the cuda runs in 32 bit binaries. Nothing ever works point and shoot in linux you mostly point shoot and then google and search for about six months trying to figure out what you shot and broke and then just reinstall and don't shoot the same target again. My current notfred 64 bit debian server has a broken kernel update thingamajig , and the update knows it needs to be updated, and I have been trying off and on for six months to fix it, I tried all kinds of build compile install mumbo jumbo, but nothing worked, its hopeless and at some point I must reinstall going to a new version, having to go to a new firewall/iptables/ipwhatever **** because it changes every six months with linux and what you used to use won't work anymore, and then I will have to navigate the dhcpd gauntlet.... linux sucks on so many levels. Then the method of conjuring up NAT/Masq will have changed and nobody will know it and you will have to search 45,000 more pages of google bs to find that one magical nugget of info that turns it on. All that after reading man pages across four monitors at one time so you can read across page breaks. After going through FreeBSD 4x-5.3, RH 3-5, debian, and knoppix.... I have grown to hate linux to the point DOS would make me happy. hell give me a 200 baud modem and VAX/VMS I would get more done (it didn't take a week to get X going). I feel like I have spent 4 years of my life reading man pages/googling for info, and everything I had working two months ago is guaranteed to never ever work again when the latest "killer linux" comes back out.

It would be a better use of my time to just buy ten copies of windows and install them. I could do that and be folding in about two hours... there is zero chance I would have linux installed succesfully in less than 40 hours. In my experience you have to install every version of linux about 4-6 times just to figure out what size to make the different partitions linux for whatever reason needs, and then invariably one partition loads up and kill the install and you have to start resizing partitions.

glad to know you're back on the fold 2_tyma :)

what about the rest of the squad? cmon guys, we need more gerbils running the wheel!!!

I'm using HD4850 and can get around 3k PPD.

I am currently folding on a 4870, however it is maxing out a core on my e8400, if I could get this down though CAL dlls I would be able to boost another 1k ppd. By the way, how do you get CAL updates, I looked around ATI's website and could find next to nothing on it?

right now TSC! Russia is only 14 hours away and we're down 10 members to 303 active folders, with 2400++ sitting inactive (unfortunately)

i'm not sure how everyone feels about this but i for one don't want TR to slip down to 10, and we've accumulated almost 2 years behind Team Mac :( :( :(

i checked around the Folding Forums and they're being tested in beta right now...it's not out for public apparently and will be released as a public beta once in-house testing is done :)

i pretty much stopped folding after i realize that folding@home makes my 4850 go at 100%, so its temperature goes up to 74C. something tells me that running that thing at that temperature 24/7 is not a good idea.

but then again, the 4850 is not a particularly good folder anyways.

You don't have to fold at 100%. Go into configuration and lower the CPU utilization, which also lowers GPU utilization. It's most likely not hurting your card in any way that you would ever notice though running at 100%, and your card is doing a lot of work. The new WUs are getting better points as well. Fold!!!

moriz, another idea is to ramp up the fan speed on your 4850. My 4870 is running at 48% fan right now, it's still relatively quiet and maxes at 60C

i'm using a lesser card that yours moriz (see sig) and i'm still folding...100% all the way temps about 60-70 ish with fan at 55%

FOLD! :)

i'm back in the fold!

btw, is there a better GPU client that i'm using? i'm using the ati gpu client that i dled about a month ago... don't know if there's a better one available.

good to know you're back in moriz! :D good on you!

anyway...regarding client? it's 6.20r1 and that's on the high performance page, and i don't see anything else frankly speaking...it has both cuda and CAL dlls in them so no worries what card you're using...

happy folding! 8)

Congratulations people, we are now officially in the 10th position. That sucks specially since we experienced a nice increase in our production, but still them Russians are outscoring us 2 to 1.

there's a really simple explanation to that

if you look REAL closely at the number of ACTIVE Russian folders, you'd get a pretty sad picture

we have over 2400+ members INACTIVE...and ONLY 303 (dropped 10 from 313) ACTIVE folders...go figure eh?
