For those who are looking for it there is a Wiki describing how to get it working. The Wiki is a bit messy and could use a clean-up, which is one of the reasons why I am bringing this to attention.

To sum it up:
- download the latest NVIDIA Linux driver (32-bit or 64-bit does not matter)
- download the NVIDIA CUDA tool-kit (needs to be 32-bit)
- download the Windows GPU2 client (console version)
- download the CUDA wrapper from the Wiki
- install the driver
- install the tool-kit
- install WINE with your Linux package manager
- create a working directory for the client and copy the client & wrapper into it
- point the way to the CUDA libraries and run the client through WINE ...

Thanks for making the post sdack. Reading the Wiki made my head hurt. I think I will wait on trying it out especially since I do not have a spare 8800 right now.

And before people ask, I don't plan on adding this to my diskless folding stuff any time soon - I would have to build wine from scratch and do all the other stuff and I hope that Stanford would come out with a proper Linux GPU Client before I managed to get all that working.
