NotFred's LiveCD needs NX bit?

Mon Feb 02, 2009 5:09 pm

I have a lot of pentium3s, and a few other bits of older hardware that lack NX Bit, and I'd like to be able to use the live CD, but it says it is missing CPU feature 0:6 or something similar to that, I was told it is NX bit, then tried with a VM with PAE/NXbit disabled, and it did that error, with PAE/NX bit enabled it booted and ran fine. I just want to know why it even needs NX bit, and/or how to change its need through mac os x 10.4, intel, or this to be "fixed."

It's something that needs to be set in the Linux kernel that it uses. I'm in the process of putting together a new build with a new version of the kernel, you can try with that and see if it works when I get it released. I have to say though that it is probably not worth folding on PIIIs and such, they are just too slow.
