Would this be a good folder?

Thu Jul 30, 2009 1:25 pm

I'm thinking about getting another computer and want best bang for the buck in folding power. Do you all think this is a good one:

(If you have anything in your newegg cart you might want to empty it before clicking on that)

Why the Rosewill kit? If you like the look of that particular case, you may want to consider this 900 + PSU combo (comes with a free Logitech mouse right now), which while somewhat more expensive is probably higher quality.

Yep, that's right along the lines of what I would build if I had a broadband connection to support the 50MB Linux SMP WUs in a VM and didn't already have a crap ton of hardware waiting to be built in addition to an almost infinite to do list. I'm amazed by the two 275 video cards for $101 each after rebate.

They aren't 100 each actually, they are $185 but Newegg's screwed up way of showing you get two free gifts is to charge you for the free gifts and then remove their price from the item the free gifts come with.

Yeah, that threw me off as well. I think it's because they can't have items selling for $0. Probably would work better if they had items categorized as "free gift only" that can't be bought unless otherwise authorized by another item.

Ah ha, it did sound a bit to good to be true. Those slick marketing devils strike again.

Indeed. I actually thought about buying one for my brother* when I noticed something was inconsistent.

I was told by an undisclosed party that I would need to remodel her laundry room before I bought such a thing. :( Looks like I will be laying tile this weekend rather than purchasing another computer. *sigh*

Possibly give some thought to buying the MSI board with 4-PCI-E slots. It's a little more money up front, but it will give you an upgrade path downstream. That way you could upgrade the PSU to 1200W and throw in another pair of GTX275 rather than buying a second computer.

Sounds like you haven't disciplined her enough! Unless she's the one that does all the laundry, then maybe you owe it to her.
