Wow, I'm going about this all wrong... All of my machines are old or are laptops, a couple are pieced together from parts, and the only one with a GPU worth mentioning has an ATI 5770 (so, old). All combined I think they're pushing less than 20k ppd.

If I wasn't putting all my spare cash into rebuilding my truck right now...

Every little bit helps, thank you. :)

But of course, if you are into points, then you really need GPU or big SMP to get those headline numbers.

Well, it was more about the spirit of the thing -- one of the machines I added is a lowly 866 MHz PIII with a meer 384kB of RAM. I'm also using it as a teaching point with my pre-teen son. He's had to put together two of the machines and he's learning about distributed computing in the process. Speaking of which, I have to go back and see if that PIII ever completed a work unit...

If I wouldn't get fired with great prejudice it would be so totally tempting to fire up Folding@Home on one of the HPC machine at work...

Are you guys getting any x17 WUs lately? All mine are x15's.

x17's are still available, you just have to set your "client-type" as "beta" instead of "advanced" (or vice versa - one of these should work).

Yes, my GPU has been working on x17's consistently for the last week, including this morning.

I have client-type set to "advanced". I thought that's the latest setting that should work? Oh well, may be they deem my lowly 660 not worthy. :-? 14K ppd is still nothing to sneeze at.

Like I said, try setting it to "beta" if "advanced" stopped working. Just delete the GPU slot, then re-add it, then use that setting. See if that helps.

LOL, you're not getting any x17's because I'M TAKING THEM ALL!

Okay, I can only get one every seven hours. But hah! :P

And I am using advanced, not beta.

If you find your client is acting fussy, then it may be time for a reboot. It seems to discourage the software cockroaches from setting up camp in my system.

Sorry to be a Debbie-downer, but...

Only 900k?

Some folders are producing that, themselves, in a day. Yes, they're using multiple 4P rigs (etc.) but I really thought (hoped) the TR Bot would do better.

For reference, it is possible to earn ~800k PPD, with a single AMD 4P rig, at present.

Hi Debbie!

Yes, those numbers are possible, but the people who participate in the Great Frankenbot Party don't have 4P rigs. We never had them in the past, so why would this year be any different? So if you get yourself a 4P rig for Frankenbot 2014, I'll try to match that and then we'll have two! Are you game? :P

CPUs in a 4 socket system cannot yield 800K PPD or more. They might be able to snag 200-300K PPD tops if they use 8 core SB-E and 8-core IB-E silicon. That production actually comes from systems that are running several GPGPU in tandem with their CPUs. My lowly, 660Ti manages to produce 30-40K PPD. The higher-end stuff from Nvidia and AMD yield even more PPDs. Just throw a few card in a workstation chassis and you have something that pump an easy 500K PPD from the GPGPUs alone. Thermal management is tricky, but doable. The system is going to be loud at load though.

I am still hoping to build a 2P IB-E at some point, and put two 7990's (or more) in it. But I might need to put it in the refrigerator!

The system is going to be loud at load though.

Not if it's in the refrigerator!

Seriously though, I really like water cooling because it's efficient and QUIET, but extracting heat from two CPUs and four GPUs (running at 100% utilization) with water will likely require two or three loops with their own pumps and radiators, or one very long loop with a huge radiator and probably an expensive case from Mountain Mods to support a 9X120mm radiator.

Assuming proper airflow through the radiators and decent waterflow to match, this would cut WAY down on the noise. That many processors in one box will necessarily generate a noticeable amount of heat and will consume a noticeable amount of electricity. I think in another thread, I said I calculated just under $100 per month added electrical cost just to run a 2P box with two 7990 cards (4 GPUs) folding 24/7. This does not account for how much harder the house air conditioning will need to work to overcome the extra heat, so I think it would probably be reasonable for me to budget $110-120 to run such a machine in my kitchen or a spare bedroom. Not a trivial amount of money; can't swing that just yet.

But said box might generate 650,000+ PPD, depending on the CPUs and GPUs chosen for the build.

Considering the memory capacity of the system (32GiB), it is probably a 2P octal SB-E/IB-E system or 4P Bulldozer/Pilediver or 4P Bloomfield rig.

Krogoth's assumptions are correct, that particular system is indeed a 2P E5-2670 v1. I do have a few 4P machines (Opt. 6376's) as well but unfortunately they cannot participate in the FAH shuffle. :(

Nobody is posting any points; not for the last three checkpoints. My own GPU unit keeps trying to send but can't. Is Stanford offline?

EDIT: I think so. http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/mai ... Frankenbot yields "This Page Can't Be Displayed".

EDIT2: That URL now works and my WU finally got posted. But nobody on TR has generated any points today. All of Team TR stands at zero.

EDIT3: Uh oh...no teams are generating any points today.
