I highly recommend blasting/vacuuming out the heat sinks and radiators at least yearly, if not semi-annually.

My old water radiator, just changed out less than a week ago, was half-clotted with grey dander. It was only about 20 months old, and I'm not certain if I did clean it. If I can't remember, then the answer is probably "no". My new cooler is running just fine. I don't know why, but the home office is noticeably cooler too.

The early wu count is inflated a bit. I have an i3-2120 working with the chrome browser. It can do 15 125 point wu's in 3 hours. I will switch to the v7 client to see if it will generate more ppd.

Got my health monitoring page back up as well, so I can easily check on things remotely. Hmm, looks like the FX-8320 is running a little warm... might need to clean some dust out of the CPU HSF. :-?

Looks like I need to do a little maintenance on my scripts, some of the current WUs aren't in the table I use to calculate my PPD estimates so the monitoring page is reading low. Start of the current WU on the 8-core was also delayed due to a failed network switch overnight. Closing the heat vents in the basement has helped with the CPU temps (it has been cold enough here the past couple of days that the heat has been running for the first time this year).

Did you guys see how close we got to 300K for Friday? Arrrrggghhh!

Of course it all balances out in the end, but damn that was close. And then we killed it with 92K for the 03:00 timeframe!

Over the last year I have noticed a lot of my "close to midnight Central Time" work units completions end up getting rolled over to 03:00 and then get booked to the next day. That's how I can go two days with 150K and then I get a day with 85K.

Edit: As of this writing, Frankie is #6 producer on Team TR! Check this link and scroll down...

We did miss 300k on the 3rd but the output of the 4th more than made up for it. I think Frankie is just getting warmed up.

Now here is where the fun of tweaking turns into frustration. I have a Core 2 that I used last year with Xp. Am trying to find a version of linux that will fit on cd. This machine reads USB but will not boot from one. I've read good things about mint but it is too large. Currently looking at alternate installs.

@PhilipMcc - I believe Lubuntu (Ubuntu derivative with LXDE lightweight desktop) still fits on a CD-R. Or surely you can scrounge up an old DVD drive to connect to this system?

Edit: Also noticed last night that my Phenom II was folding under my name instead of TRFrankenbot. This has been fixed.

Early prediction time: assuming we can keep up at least 500K ppd til the end of the month, then 13M points should be within reach. Assuming our previous heavy hitters like Fuzzhead have not joined in the fun yet, I would loosely say 20M for the month be possible. Of course, we should aim for better than last year, right? We will need an even high mark as a stretch goal. 8)

What's the ppd output like these days? Haven't they bumped to mandatory 32-cores already, taking out a whole bunch of potentially capable systems?

Around 228k PPD on 8104/8105, normally get around 250k per completed WU. Yes, PG decided to up the minimum core count for BA WUs last year I believe.

The Extreme Overclocking site isn't getting updates, so it looks like Frankie is getting zero points. It will eventually fix itself/get fixed, so keep on folding! :)

I've never folded, but I'd like to try. Seems like Frankenbot is a good avenue. Can someone post instructions on how to get my client linked to TRFrankenbot?
Not sure how much the rig in my signature can produce, but every little bit helps right?
Also, any tips on optimization? (SMP, GPU, Both?)

Every little bit does help. Sent some PM your way with the credentials.

There is a spreadsheet at overclock.net with three entries from last year. You may be able to get 50k ppd using your GPU. There seems to be a lot of discussion that using the GPU causes the system to be less responsive.

A similar Cpu spreadsheet appears outdated. Why not give it a go for several days and report back?

I run my GPU 24/7. I have to stop GPU folding during some games (to avoid the game crashing), but not for any other activities, not even when I am doing 3D artwork.

A reminder to new Frankie participants: The proper spelling for Frankie is

TRFrankenbot

All 1 word, first 3 characters capitalized. If you get it wrong, your contributions won't appear with the rest of us.

Also, be careful entering the passkey; best to copy-paste from your PM. If you get the passkey wrong, then your contributions won't be eligible for bonus return points.

I found the typo and fixed it. It gave me an opportunity to check the progress of 3 pc's.

@BIF - where did you notice that?

I likely gave out some bad info. My apology.

Hah, I didn't notice. Except somebody said '3 folders under Frankie' and I had only known of two...so I just guessed that somebody should give the usual yearly reminder. :D

We broke 1M! We broke 1M! We broke 1M!

So getting to last year's total of 20M seems possible. What will be a good stretch goal?

Wow!

If we can get more folders, I think 25-30 M would be on the horizon...

It's the only one that I used, but the v7 client's estimate is usually good enough for me.

Yes, I used to have that one bookmarked. Mostly stopped using it when I added bonus point calculation to my own custom monitoring scripts.

BIF - Thanks for the updates.

Fuzzhead - Thanks for the heaping stack of points.

I will move one PC back to use the chrome folding client. It seems to produce more with that than the v7 client.

#1 producer on the TR team now. If we keep up this pace we should clear over 30 million points for the month. I say 40 million should be our new stretch goal!

I'm also curious how much of this horsepower is from people who have temporarily switched user names, and how much is people who have actually activated (or re-activated) new (or dormant) systems for the TRFrankenbot effort. If you look at overall Tech Report stats, production has indeed ramped up since the beginning of the month, but is still roughly on par with the slight upward trendline based on the past ~6 months.

FWIW I had taken a break from folding until about a week ago. I'm considering leaving a system (or two?) going over the winter though, after the 2014 TRFrankenbot effort is over.
