Hasbro loses "Transformer Prime" lawsuit

Tue Mar 27, 2012 8:32 pm

EDIT: Changed the title, I fail.

Via IGN: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/03/27/ ... rmer-prime

"...the court came to the conclusion that the term "transformer," in regards to the tablet, was an accurate description of the device since a keyboard can be attached to turn it into a laptop. The judge stated, "There is nothing gimmicky about the Eee Pad Transformer or the Eee Pad Transformer Prime, nor can it be said that there is any similarity in the use or function between Hasbro and Asus’s products."

The judge continued by saying Hasbro had taken too long to act on the matter. Although the Eee Pad Transformer Prime was announced in November and released in December, the original Eee Pad Transformer came to the market in March of 2011."

Not sure I agree with this ruling. I mean, Transformer is one thing, but Transformer Prime?

I think that's a bit too close.

I look forward to purchasing the Asus Transformer Prime Jazz edition this winter.

No biggie. I've done done similar things so many time I can't count.

It was pretty obvious by your quotes, from the article, that Hasbro lost and Asus won. 8)

As noted on TR's front page update this morning, the suit is not yet over. What happened is that the judge denied motion for a preliminary injunction against continued sales of the Asus product line. The suit is not yet concluded although the judge's comments weight pretty badly against Hasbro, at least in this courtroom, suggesting this may get drug through the appellate process for a while.
