Any of those three choices would be very good.
I like the pair of 7870s with 6 mini-displayport ports, but they have only half the stream processors of the more expensive HIS 7970. I'm thinking of spending the extra money for added folding power and the occasional game. Opinions on that?
And also, I'm thinking of making the monitor and graphic card purchases now
to get some use out of them for a few weeks with my existing system:
1 of the three cards in the quoted message above (probably the HIS 7970).
3 of these: EQ276W 27" IPS LED Monitor
I have an Asus P5KC motherboard with one blue PCIe graphic card slot and one black slot.
Here's the verbiage from the motherboard specs:
2 x PCIe x16 (blue @ x16 mode, black @ x4 or x1 mode) Supports CrossFire Technology
1 x PCIe x1
3 x PCI
The blue slot has an old Radeon 5750 (which would be replaced with the new 7970 or 7870).
The black slot currently has my UAD-2 Duo card in it (which must remain and will eventually be transferred to the new computer).
Can I proceed NOW with the purchase of these and use them for a month or so on my Q6600 system while I continue to work out the other details of my new system?
