7950 and display port sound

Mon Dec 10, 2012 3:05 pm

I have a 7950 with 3 monitors running. I am currently running audio through an HDMI port to my 7.1 in my office but I would like to also put out a 1080p signal with sound through an display port through my wall to my Home entertainment center. I'm here to inquire if a Mini Display port to HDMI adapter would allow full 7.1 and 1080p???

I would say yes.
But you have to watch the adapters, past the 2nd used port you need to use an active adapter (likely you've already hit that since you are running 3 monitors but if you go straight to display port the limitation is not there.

having purchased and attempted using a mini displayport to HDMI adapter. No it does not support sound.

Only if it enables DTS-Connect or Dolby-Digital-Live encoding, and I think that's limited to 5.1.
