FEAR 2005 is one of the best FPS/combat shooters ever made.
Extraction Pt has the same technical excellence as FEAR but not as good a gaming experience.
Persus Mandate+2/3 are low grade crap by nearly every criteria.
Agree 100%. I would play FEAR 1 late at night in the dark and it scared the crap out of me. 2 seemed like a joke and I passed up 3 altogether after that.
However, I would say that FEAR's beauty really lies in its unique mechanics. The guns feel absolutely great, mastering the G2A2 in multiplayer is nothing short of an art, and the holstering / unarmed features really set a great pace and flow that sets it apart from all modern shooters to this day.
Do note that if you're interested in trying the multiplayer, the steam version doesn't work because WB pulled the plug on the free keygen and GameSpy met its untimely demise around the end of last year.
However, there is a community-run master server and a free download of a working patched community version of the game at www.fear-community.org
. The site is run by some nice guys who are quite helpful. It's a great game if you're looking for something different than your cookie-cutter FPS.
