Introducting Starcraft: Cartooned

Tue Jul 09, 2019 7:19 pm

It's basically just Starcraft: Remastered, but with toony, flash-esque graphics. It's an interesting take on the classic.

On second thought, let's not go to TechReport. Tis a silly place.

I installed it last night and played a few rounds, I must say I quite like it. Cabot animation did an outstanding job on it. I'm not too sure about the longevity of it but its really neat.

Not that it's a bad thing, but it seems like a relatively low-effort way of Blizzard milking the game for more income, and I wouldn't be surprised if more of these come later.

It actually makes stuff really easy to see! Kinda like turning detail levels to very low on 3D games end up giving you a competitive advantage.

I wonder if some pros might start using cartoon mode to get an edge lol

I don't like the look, but I have to imagine it's easier to make out various units in the chaos. Competitive players will surely enjoy that.

Aww, man, how'd I miss this?

$10 for a reskin is a bit much, but there's a ton of effort required, so I kinda get it.

What's up will all these flashy remasters, I mean, Warcraft 3 is also getting one, AoE 2, despite already having a HD version, is also getting one, I mean cmon, how much can we spend on the same game :D

I’ll keep spending in AOE. I just wish they would allow local multiplayer.

I think it's fun and worth it, but only if they changed the voices. After reading the review, I'm not sure I could handle a big, manly or a scary bug sound voice coming from a cute little guy.

The Carbot "StarCrafts" cartoons use original voice samples from both SC1 and SC2. If you've watched a bunch of those (goodness knows I have) it's totally reasonable to keep the original voices. :D

For some context, these animations come from a fairly successful and hilarious-to-players youtube series from Carbot Animations called Starcrafts
