New GeForce 7950 GT and GeForce 7900 GS graphics cards were announced just yesterday, but Nvidia might have another GeForce 7900-series card up its sleeve. HKEPC says it has heard from European OEM sources that Nvidia is prepping a new graphics card almost identical to the GeForce 7900 GTX but with slower memory. Reportedly dubbed the GeForce 7900 GTO, the card in question has its memory clocked at 660MHz (1.32GHz effective) instead of the GeForce 7900 GTX’s 800MHz. Based on a listing on British online store Overclockers.co.uk, the GTO could sell for between $299 and $349, a similar price range to the 7950 GT.
According to HKEPC, the so-called GeForce 7900 GTO could help Nvidia both compete with ATI’s new Radeon X1950 family and clear its stock of G71 graphics processors in anticipation of the upcoming G80 GPU.
