Toshiba may seek compensation over battery recalls
As if being responsible for over 7.7 million recalled laptop batteries wasn't enough, Sony's battery recall troubles may not be over yet. A Toshiba executive has said his company will seek compensation from Sony over the recalls. Sony is already expected to take care of direct battery replacement costs, but that may not be enough for Toshiba, which recalled 830,000 batteries last month. The executive said, "We will have no choice but to seek compensation for such matters as lost sales opportunities and a decline in the value of our brand." A report by Japan's Nihon Keizai Shimbun says Toshiba will argue that it had to recall batteries during a period of strong demand leading up to the holiday season. However, another spokesperson said Toshiba has not yet made a decision about the issue.
