Valve opens up Source to the Xbox 360
A few months ahead of the release
of Half-Life 2 for the Xbox 360, Valve has made its Source engine available
as a middleware solution for Xbox 360 game developers. The Source engine, which already powers third-party PC titles like Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, SiN Episodes, and the upcoming Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, has been optimized for the Xbox 360's ATI "Xenos" graphics processor and includes full support for Xbox Live.
In an interview with Joystiq today, Valve Marketing Director Doug Lombardi added that companies will be able to port a Source-based game's logic, audio, models, textures, most shaders, and game levels to the Xbox 360 with "minimal work." Source also supports networking between the Xbox 360 and PC, although Xbox Live access limits currently make this feature unusable.
