Windows XP Service Pack 3 not coming until 2008
Bad news for those who intend to snub Windows Vista next year: Microsoft has silently postponed the release of Service Pack 3
for Windows XP to some time during the first half of 2008. The first service pack for Windows XP came out in September 2002, roughly one year after the operating system's release, and Service Pack 2 followed less than two years later in August 2004. However, Service Pack 3 will now arrive between 28 and 34 months after SP2. The upcoming service pack is likely to be mostly made up of security fixes, but Microsoft has suggested
that features from Windows Vista may be back-ported, as well.
