ATI releases Catalyst 6.11 drivers
A mere two weeks after releasing
its Catalyst 6.10 drivers, ATI has struck again with a new release, this time bearing a 6.11 version number. The Catalyst 6.11 drivers are now available
from, er, AMD's website, and they bring a new feature in addition to the usual performance enhancements and bug fixes. ATI says Radeon X1900 and Radeon X1950 graphics cards can now be used in "any combination" to form a CrossFire multi-GPU system without the need for either a master card or an external dongle. This new change excludes the Radeon X1950 Pro, which has an internal bridge and doesn't need a master card to run in CrossFire mode anyway.
As for performance improvements and bug fixes, ATI claims Call of Duty 2 frame rate have increased by as much as 12.5% at resolutions of up to 1920x1200 with dongle-less Radeon X1900 CrossFire configurations. A number of bugs are also gone in 3DMark 2003, Rome: Total War, Rush for Berlin, Tomb Raider Legend, Uber Soldier, and other miscellaneous applications, including ATI's own Catalyst Control Center. Release notes for the new drivers are available on the download page here.
