Nvidia said to have postponed iPod chip
This summer, an analyst claimed
that Apple had selected Nvidia to provide graphics logic for the next-generation video iPod. However, EE Times now has word from a second analyst that Nvidia may be one or two quarters behind schedule
with the silicon. The analyst—Satya Chillara from Pacific Growth Equities—says Nvidia has pushed back the tape-out for the upcoming iPod graphics chip from the first quarter of next year to either the second or third quarter. Chillara believes the setback will add "some instability" to Nvidia's revenue stream for the first half of 2007. Of course, yet another analyst stated
two weeks ago that the now Nvidia-owned PortalPlayer would provide silicon for Apple's rumored iPhone device, so Nvidia may still do quite well in the handheld sector next year.
