Deal of the week: A cheaper X-Fi

To go with today's sound card review, we've spotted a pretty sweet deal on one of Creative's X-Fi sound cards in our weekly deal hunt. Newegg is running a $20-off instant rebate deal on the X-Fi XtremeGamer that shaves the card's price down to a cool $69.99. What's more, Newegg also offers a $20 mail-in rebate that can bring the card's price down to just $49.99—if mail-in rebates are your thing.

Based on the information available on Creative's site, the X-Fi XtremeGamer has the same specifications as the X-Fi XtremeMusic, which we reviewed a couple of years ago and still recommend in our system guides. The only real differences we can see are that the X-Fi XtremeGamer lacks the XtremeMusic's AD-Link connector for the break-out X-Fi I/O console, and that it has a narrower PCB than the XtremeMusic. Being able to get the card for $70 is already nice, but the extra $20 rebate is icing on the cake, so we think this is an excellent deal.
