New details leak about upcoming Intel chips
A couple of months ago, reports claimed
Intel would launch a handful of new chips and slash prices in its Core 2 Duo line some time in the second quarter of this year. A report from DigiTimes suggested
that the cuts would happen some time in April, and now the folks at VR-Zone have named
a specific date: April 22. They echo the same prices of $163 for the rumored Core 2 Duo E6320 chip, $183 for the Core 2 Duo E6420, and $133 for the Core 2 Duo E4400. All three chips are expected on the same date.
The site has also gotten hold of pricing information for a batch of chips it says is scheduled for a launch in June. Those chips reportedly include an $84 Pentium E2160, a $74 Pentium E2140, a $59 Celeron 440, a $49 Celeron 430, and a $39 Celeron 420. The two Pentium chips will be dual-core offerings clocked at 1.8GHz and 1.6GHz with an 800MHz front-side bus and 1MB of cache. As for the Celerons, they'll be single-core models clocked between 1.6GHz and 2.0GHz with 512KB of cache and an 800MHz bus.
