Wide-screen monitors rising in popularity
According to a DisplaySearch report quoted by DigiTimes, demand for 19" wide-screen LCD monitors is so high that supply from production facilities may soon run tight. The site says 19" wide-screen LCD demand has been rising quickly in part because the displays can be cheaper than 17" LCDs with standard aspect ratios. DigiTimes goes on to say that by the end of the year, wide-screen monitors may account for nearly 40% of the overall monitor market, and that 19" wide-screen monitors will make up the biggest portion of the wide-screen market. That 40% figure is certainly a significant rise from last year, when we heard that wide-screen displays would only account for as much as 10-15% of worldwide monitor shipments throughout 2006.
