TR Forum Tidings: Cheap laptops
For today's forum tidings post, we've picked a thread
by Canadian gerbil iamajai. In his thread, iamajai asks for tips picking a cheap notebook—something in the $600-800 CAD ($518-690 USD) range—for his father-in-law. Posters from our Mobile Tech forum suggested a number of options, and in the end, the Dell Inspiron 1501 and the HP Pavilion DV6205 ended up standing out. iamajai eventually went with the latter. The model he picked up has a Celeron M 440 processor, 1GB of RAM, an 80GB hard drive, and it comes with Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
Have you had to shop for a cheap notebook lately, and if so, what did you pick? Who do you think makes the best cheap laptops? Is there a threshold below which you think it's impossible to get a quality mobile system? If you have something to contribute, it's not too late to post in iamajai's thread for some post-hoc discussion. Don't forget to register a forum account first if you don't already have one.
