Carmack is 'not a believer' in physics processors

Bad news for Ageia. id Software star programmer John Carmack has told Boot Daily in no uncertain terms that he still has no interest in dedicated physics processing hardware:
I am not a believer in dedicated PPUs. Multiple CPU cores will be much more useful in general, but when GPUs finally get reasonably fine grained context switching and scheduling, some tasks will work well there.
John Carmack already seemed dubious of the benefits of dedicated physics processing hardware when he spoke at Quakecon back in 2005, but this latest statement strongly suggests that id Tech 5—id's next engine—won't support PhysX accelerators. Carmack's view contrasts with that of Epic Games, which has implemented PhysX support in Unreal Engine 3.
