Intel sets X38 chipset launch for next month
Ronald already caught this in the 'bread, but it deserves a little extra attention. According to a report by DailyTech, Intel has set a September 23 press embargo date
for its high-end X38 Express chipset. That date is when performance numbers and reviews of the X38 will begin to roll out. However, DailyTech says we can expect X38-based motherboards to hit store shelves sooner than that—"early next month," the site specifies.
The X38 Express will succeed the aging 975X Express as Intel's flagship enthusiast chipset. It will support PCI Express 2.0, dual 16-lane PCI Express x16 slots, and DDR3 memory. At Computex back in June, we saw prototype X38 boards from Abit, Albatron, Biostar, DFI, Foxconn, Gigabyte, and MSI.
