Audio playback bug slows Vista networking?

— 4:37 PM on August 21, 2007

The folks over at the 2CPU forums have discovered an interesting issue with Windows Vista that degrades network performance during audio playback. Network throughput appears to be locked between 5% and 10% of line capacity when audio files are being played or even when they're paused. The problem apparently afflicts video playback, as well, and no amount of fiddling with priorities and auto-tuning options seems to rejuvenate network performance. Thanks to Slashdot for the tip.
