Following its pullout from the iTunes Store last month, NBC is cooking up a new service through which it will deliver a selection of its TV shows. According to an AP report quoted by Yahoo News, the upcoming service will be dubbed NBC Direct. Featured shows will include Heroes and The Office, which users will be able to download for free and store for up to a week. However, the AP says the service will be restricted to Windows systems, and that episodes will contain ads that viewers won't be able to skip.
NBC intends to launch a test version of NBC Direct in October. The service will expand in later months to allow users to subscribe to TV shows and automatically download them as well as to let users play shows on hand-held devices.
