Microsoft may be pushing to promote the PC as a gaming platform through the newly formed PC Gaming Alliance, but the software giant is by no means shunning console aficionados at the ongoing 2008 Game Developers Conference. In fact, Microsoft has taken the event as an opportunity to announce the sequel to one of the most popular titles for the Xbox 360.
As Shacknews reports, Microsoft took the wraps off Gears of War 2 during its keynote address at the GDC today. Gears of War 2 is in development by Epic Games, and it's scheduled to hit Xbox 360s exclusively some time in November—two years after the release of the first title. There's no word of a PC version yet, but considering the PC flavor of the original Gears of War came out late last year, the sequel's Xbox 360-exclusive status may not last.
Aside from announcing the title, Epic Games used the keynote to show off features of the updated Unreal Engine, er, engine that will power Gears of War 2. Shacknews says the new engine features "far improved fluid dynamics, high-density crowds, and characters with soft-body physics." The folks at Joystiq have some photos of the new goodies taken during the keynote on this page.
