MSI Wind to start hitting U.S. shores on June 27

One of the most promising Eee PC clones at Computex earlier this month was no doubt the MSI Wind U100, which delivers a 10" display, 2.5" hard drive, decent-sized keyboard, and Windows XP all for just under $500—a good deal cheaper than even Asus' Eee PC 1000H.

MSI has added the Wind to its U.S. online store, and it has revealed when it expects to ship the notebook. The "estimated ship date" for both the white U100-W3M and the black U100-B3M is June 27. Both machines are listed for $479.99, and MSI says they both include 1.6GHz Atom processors, 1GB of DDR2 memory, 80GB hard drives, 802.11g Wi-Fi, 100Mbps Ethernet, 4-in-1 card readers, 1.3-megapixel webcams, and three-cell batteries. These models weigh just 2.3 lbs (1.04 kg), making them a tad lighter than the Eee PC 1000H.

MSI isn't the only one hoping to steal the spotlight from the Eee PC, though. Acer, Dell, and VIA all have similar hardware on the way, while HP's Eee killer is already available. (Thanks to Engadget for the tip.)
