Radeon owners, you know the drill: every month, AMD releases a new set of Catalyst graphics drivers with bug fixes and, occasionally, a handful of other improvements. This month's Catalyst 9.6 release is now available from the AMD Game website. You can download different versions for Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP in their 32-bit and 64-bit variants.
AMD claims the 9.6 Catalysts introduce performance improvements in the following cases:
Company of Heores – performance gains of up to 25% for the ATI Radeon™ HD 4600 Series, and performance gains of up to 10% for the ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series. Crysis Warhead – performance gains of up to 11% for ATI CrossFireX™ configurations. Crysis – performance gains of up to 13% for ATI CrossFireX™ configurations. World in Conflict – performance gains of up to 30% for settings are were [sic] previously CPU limited.
In short, don't get your hopes up unless you play real-time strategy games or run a CrossFire X config. Those World in Conflict gains do sound potentially significant, though.
Alleged frame rate gains aside, the new Catalysts also carry fixes related to the Catalyst Control Center and a few miscellaneous other bugs. Check out the full release notes in PDF format for all the details.
