Last month, we showed you a video of The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, a zombie-themed downloadable content pack for Gearbox’s Borderlands. We didn’t know the date of the DLC’s Windows release at the time, but we do now: it’s today. As a matter of fact, you can head to the Steam online store and purchase the expansion right now for $9.99.
The DLC requires a copy of Borderlands, of course, and it adds five new game areas, "dozens of new missions," and new enemies. Gearbox pimps the expansion with the following blurb on Steam:
The Jakobs Corporation would like to invite you to experience the splendor of a corporate owned small town known as Jakobs Cove. Any rumors you may have heard about the "undead" walking our streets are completely preposterous and we officially deny them all. If those rumors turn out to be true simply purchase a firearm from the conveniently located Jakobs Brand Vending Machines and aim for the head. Also, would you mind saving our employees? (Non-union only please)
A teaser video on YouTube also shows Gearbox has stuck to the grown-up cartoon look and humor of Borderlands, having spiced it up somewhat with a Halloween-cum-zombie-apocalypse feel:
The expansion supports both single-player and co-operative multiplayer, so you’ll be able to get your friends in on the fun, as well. For what it’s worth, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned has been available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 since November 24.
