Deal of the week: Storage, graphics, and cases

Online retailers have chosen Valentine’s Day as the occasion to promote a fresh wave of bargains this week. We’ve singled out a handful of particularly sweet deals from both Newegg in the U.S. and NCIX north of the border.

For an overview of what’s going on at Newegg, you’ll want to check out the site’s Valentine Day sale. One of the deals showcased is Seagate’s 1.5TB Barracuda 7200.11 hard drive, which is on sale for $59.99 shipped if you enter the coupon code EMCKHJJ34. Buying storage at four cents a gigabyte never hurts.

We also see that OCZ’s Vertex 2 120GB solid-state drive is available for $176.99 with free shipping after both a $40 instant rebate and a $30 mail-in rebate. While we don’t particularly trust mail-in rebates, $206.99 isn’t a bad price for this drive to begin with. Similarly, Newegg offers Sapphire’s Radeon HD 5770 1GB graphics card for $99.99 shipped after a $20 coupon code (SAPPHIRE232) and a $20 mail-in rebate.

At NCIX up in Canada, Western Digital’s 2TB Caviar Green hard drive is on sale for a cool $79.99, while Corsair’s Graphite Series 600T is still available at a substantial discount ($124.99). That OCZ Vertex 2 SSD we found at Newegg is discounted here, also—for $179.99 after a mail-in rebate.

    Unfortunately, the $125 600Ts went out of stock and they’re back at $169.

    When I follow that OCZ Vertex 2 link, all I see is $210 AR. It’s the 3.5″ drive.

    The other two OCZ + SSD + MIR + 120GB drives they have are:
    * The 2.5″ 120GB Vertex 2 for $200 AR.
    * The 2.5″ 120GB Agility 2 (E) for $175 AR.

    But I don’t see the deal you mention.

    I am still disappointed I didnt take advantage of a deal I saw in Nov. Mushkin Callisto Deluxe 120GB for $212cnd with a $50 MIR. Mushkin has been good in my experience with MIR although it takes 2 months 🙁

    Is that the same 1½ TB Seagate Barracuda drive that had all of the problems?

      i had a refurbished 1.5 TB seagate that had all the problems. and never had a problem, 3 years strong now. it was just a firmware issue, but they fixed it.

      The seagate problems have long been fixed, theres no reason to suspect seagate is any less reliable than the others on new drives. Generally slower in real world usage, but no less reliable.

      I don’t know. 175 bucks for ~110 GB of SSD space is pretty awesome.

        that’s edging very close to the fabled dollar a gig people keep mentioning. And damn is that a sexy thought.
