KT266 chipset: fast after all

Rumors have been flying about lackluster performance from Via's soon-to-be-released DDR chipset for the Athlon, the KT266. But the guys at CHIP Online have scored an MSI KT266 Pro motherboard and tested it against the competition from AMD, ALi, and Via themselves—and the results look promising. (Note, however, that some of their graphs visually exaggerate the differences between scores because they don't start at zero on the Y axis. I hate that.)

Given AMD's determined strategy to lead the market, then roll over and die as soon as Via intros a new chipset for the Athlon, the KT266 looks poised to take over a huge chunk of the Athlon motherboard market.
