We’re thanks-giving away an MSI X79 mobo and GTX 580 video card

‘Tis the season of giving. In that spirit, we’re following up our Anomaly: Warzone Earth giveaway with another, even grander contest. This time, three lucky TR readers will get some state-of-the-art hardware loot kindly donated by MSI. The bounty, which shall be split up between the winners, includes:

  • One MSI Z68A-GD65 motherboard (with PCI Express 3.0 and a five-year warranty) worth $190.

Our first-prize winner will get first dibs on the motherboard and graphics card of his choice. The second-place winner will get to choose one motherboard or graphics card from the remaining loot, and the bronze medalist will get the component that remains.

How does one enter for a chance to win? Simple. Carefully read the rules and regulations below, then fill out the form as instructed with your answers to our qualifying questions and your contact details. (As always, your personal information will be kept confidential.)

We’d like to give our warm thanks to the folks at MSI for making this giveaway possible.

Rules and regulations

Sorry, but this contest is open to residents of the U.S. and Canada (except Quebec) only.

To enter, fill out the form below, correctly answering three easy questions. We clearly reveal the answer to these questions in our X79 motherboard roundup.

Only one entry allowed per person, household, or e-mail address. Multiple entries per person, household or address are not permitted. Please don’t try to game the system by entering your girlfriend, wife, kids or pets. We’ll probably disqualify you if you do.

We will be accepting giveaway entries between the time this post goes up (on November 23) and December 7 at noon CST. We’ll then choose our winner in a random drawing from among all eligible entries. The winner will be announced on the site and will also be notified via e-mail on December 8. The winner must claim his prize by the end of the day on December 12, or he will forfeit his prize and we will draw a new winner.

You must include your full name and a physical shipping address with your entry. Only the winner’s name will be announced on the site. We will not share the address or other personal information with our sponsors or anyone else. Incomplete entries will be disqualified. TR reserves the right to disqualify entries that appear to be attempts to game the system or circumvent the rules in any way.

The staff of The Tech Report and their immediate families may not enter the giveaway and are not eligible to win.

We will accept entries only from residents of the United States and Canada (Quebec excepted). No purchase is necessary. This giveaway is void where prohibited by law. Neither TR nor MSI is responsible for any taxes on the prize, damage in shipping, damage caused by using the prize with other products, or health issues such as repetitive strain injury, eye strain, or chemical addictions that may result from prolonged use of the prize. We may answer questions and offer clarifications of the rules in this comments thread.

The questions and entry form

  1. How many memory channels does Intel’s Sandy Bridge-E CPU have?
  2. How many 6Gbps Serial ATA ports does the X79 Express chipset have?

Wow great give away. If I win I’m donating this to the local youth club since I just built a new system. Thanks Tech Report!

I’ve been really impressed with MSI’s GPU cooling lately. The Twin Frozr III in particular. You have to hold it in order to appreciate the feel and weight of their all metal heatsinks.

The Twin Frozr II on MSI cards are crap. I have returned 2 560ti cards and one 570 all because of that dumb HSF. Yes it keep the cards very cool under load but there is a severe flaw with the cooler. It does not keep the memory cool causing the cards to fail after around 3 months or so of moderate use. All 3 of the cards I had from MSI failed with memory artifacts, every single one of them. I got sick of sending the card back every 3 months so I sold off the RMA cards and bought a different brand. Just a FYI.

Wow, didn’t realize this was an issue. Thanks for the heads up – I’ll look into this.

I’m thankful to have met as many TR forum members and staff as I did this year, and to share a good time with you.

Also appreciated is the generosity in your giving things away to us.

Best wishes for a blessed Thanksgiving weekend to all here.

Really selfish thinking, but I really hope I win. I was planning on building a computer next month, after like 6 years, waiting and waiting, and now I lost my job.

Wow, nice stuff! Thanks TR. Do I need these…? No, so I’ll just wish everyone else good luck!

If I win one of the gfx cards, one of you lucky fellas is gonna get my 5770.

This was said in jest, but I wonder if this might be a good idea. If you win something, gift something lesser, ideally what you have replaced. Publicly note this, and encourage the recipient to continue.

I’d imagine it can end when the regift is a 5$ Dell USB mouse. 😛

I fully intend to follow thru… I’m a big believer in paying it forward… if I’m so lucky that I win a great video card, why not give my decent one to someone who perhaps lives in a place where computer hardware is not so cheap?

Shitty government of Quebec. At least, I have a Florida address so that’s not too sad for me, but for my fellows Quebecers, that’s really bad. Stupid laws sometime.

      Agreed !

      • ChronoReverse

It’s unfortunate but it’s the laws that Quebec set for themselves that make it a hassle to make these kind of giveaways include them. It’s simply too much hassle.

But what will you send me? Ahh, nevermind, the wookie’s got it worse than my 8800GT. Send it to him. 🙂

Haha, yeah it is a pain, at least I put a custom cooler on it so it is silent and I can get a pretty good overclock on it. I’ve been waiting to upgrade the entire machine at once. Especially since I now have two Dell u2311s. It would be kind of fun to go from an Nvidia 7900 to an AMD 7900!

6600GT here. I’ve learned that I have really long upgrade cycles, so I’m not going mid-range for my next build…

I want that video card so I can replay BF3 single player since Origin said it was not installed when I re-booted my computer and erased all my saved games.

If ever there was a contest I needed to win!

A graphics card would do me wonders, either one, and my poor X58 board is flaking out a lot. Can’t afford to replace them any other way!

    Come on hard six!
