We can’t show you NZXT’s next-gen Phantom

Computex — The most interesting thing on display at NZXT’s Computex showcase in Taipei, Taiwan, was the next-generation Phantom enclosure. This case is due out by the end of the year, and we weren’t allowed to take pictures, because the design hasn’t been finalized. We can, however, show you a shot of the existing model in a new color: gunmetal.

This shade will be one of three color options for the new Phantom, which will also be available in black and white. We saw a number of new products in gunmetal tones, although not enough to definitively suggest a new trend. I hope the color catches on.

Despite lacking pictures of the new Phantom, we can tell you what’s changed. The hard drive cages are now removable, allowing longer graphics cards to be tucked inside the chassis. Don’t worry about losing hard drive bays; the back side of the motherboard tray has mounting holes for SSDs, a feature we saw on a number of cases at the show. There’s more room behind the tray for cabling, too, and NZXT has added an SD reader to the front of the case.

Is it wrong that I have an overwhelming urge to want it more because I can’t see it?

I’ve been a long critic of the Phantom series as being aesthetically hideous and overdone. But that new color really does look quite nice so long as the box doesn’t look like a Christmas tree when it’s powered up….

I know the case gets a lot of good reviews, but I too have never liked the shape of it. It looks like a Honda motorcycle.

What’s the point of putting a product on display at a trade show if you don’t want people to look at it?

Looking and taking pictures are two completely different things.

PR and news reporting aren’t though. 😉

Sounds like they’re taking some of the most popular features from the Switch 810 and adding them to their other cases. Seems like a win to me.

I hated that case till I saw it in person. Quite impressive actually.
