Enter here to win dual Radeon HD 7870s with Hitman and Far Cry 3

Ok, folks, here’s stage two of our rolling Radeon giveaway. AMD has provided some loot for us to hand out to several lucky readers, including Radeon graphics cards and the associated games from the Never Settle bundle.

Now on the clock: a pair of Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition cards from Gigabyte with swanky triple-fan coolers.

These cards have 2GB of memory, and the GPU clock runs at 1100MHz, 10% above stock speeds. You can check out our review of the Radeon HD 7870 for more info, but if you’re unfamiliar, these are seriously powerful graphics cards that should run the vast majority of today’s games fluidly at 1920×1080 resolution. The winner will receive both cards, so they can be teamed up via CrossFire for even higher performance.

Whoever wins these cards will also get the same games he would if he had purchased them at a participating reseller:

  • A free copy of Far Cry 3.
  • A free copy of Hitman: Absolution.
  • A 20%-off coupon for Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

I believe the cards and games together are worth just over $600.

To enter the giveaway:

But the last few parts are totally optional and only meant to enrich your life in small ways.

Because lawyers still roam the earth, doing as they will, we do have a few requirements for entry, which are spelled out below.

Rules and regulations

Sorry, but this contest is open to residents of the U.S. and Canada (except Quebec) only.

Only one entry allowed per person, household, or e-mail address. Multiple entries per person, household or address are not permitted. Please don’t try to game the system by entering your girlfriend, wife, kids or pets. We’ll probably disqualify you if you do.

We will be accepting giveaway entries between the time this post goes up and December 4, 2012 at noon CST. We’ll then choose our winner in a random drawing from among all eligible entries. The winner will be announced on the site and will also be notified via e-mail. The winner must claim his prize by the end of the day on December 7, or he will forfeit his prize and we will draw a new winner.

You must include your full name and a physical shipping address with your entry. Only the winner’s name will be announced on the site. We will not share the address or other personal information with our sponsors or anyone else. Incomplete entries will be disqualified. TR reserves the right to disqualify entries that appear to be attempts to game the system or circumvent the rules in any way.

The staff of The Tech Report and their immediate families may not enter the giveaway and are not eligible to win.

We will accept entries only from residents of the United States and Canada (Quebec excepted). No purchase is necessary. This giveaway is void where prohibited by law. Neither TR nor AMD is responsible for any taxes on the prize, damage in shipping, damage caused by using the prize with other products, or health issues such as repetitive strain injury, eye strain, or chemical addictions that may result from prolonged use of the prize. We may answer questions and offer clarifications of the rules in this comments thread.

Questions and entry form

The contest is now closed. Thanks to everyone who participated.

If I were only running one of them, then it would probably use less power. But paired up as a team in CF I’m sure it would use more. Actually if I did win this I would probably need a new PSU. Mine is only a 600 watt unit, and though I am sure that would likely be plenty to run a pair of these on an i7-920 box with 5 hard drives, it’s a plug issue where I only have a pair of 6 pin pci-e plugs (1x 6 pin and 1x 6+2), instead of the four that it would require to run both of these at once. Not that it would be a huge delema… I’m sure I could find some way to suffer by using only one card until I could get a new PSU with the required number of plugs πŸ™‚

Did TR ever do a review of the 78xx cards in crossfire? I know they did the 7970s in crossfire when they benched the 690… would be kind of neat to seehow these perform when working as a team.

I had a friend who once lived in Quebec; and he said it was definitely like two cities in one. According to him, if you weren’t in the “in” crowd, you might as well live in a hovel on the wrong side of the tracks (and maybe you did!). I always took that as a bit of exaggeration. And of course there is the law/regulation thing, which can be a very real roadblock too.

    • BIF

Oh I know why! He was [i<]only[/i<] offering to give away 50% of his gains...but not really when you consider the software. He should have thrown in the games too and the other card while he was at it. And shipping and an extra $100 for all the "trouble" he's causing. Note: It wasn't me who downvoted him (and at this posting he's got a +1 anyway). And I was being facetious. I actually think he should keep 100% of his winnings anyway.

Nice try. If your wife really is that beautiful, then you should be trying to impress her by showing her that you don’t need to win any contest or drawing and that your philanthropy knows no limits.

You should send the cards straight to me because I have nobody to impress. πŸ˜€

Entered. 2 cards, 8 monitors. I guess I could make room in my new system for these. It would save me $500-$1,000 US given the options I have been considering lately.

Thank you to all who responded to my Quebec question. Pushing back my frontier of ignorance is always a good thing!

I know I won’t win, but I need to be part of the bandwagon, so here it is. And I’m getting the book as soon as I have to cash, yes it is that bad. But hey, I have everything to keep me going!

Sorry guys, I won. Scott thinks I’m just way too awesome to not win, so he cancelled the contest and gave me the prize. He also took me and my beautiful wife to a fancy dinner and offered to fly me over to Japan for the next big tech expo.

So yeah, better luck next time. I’ll politely refuse this next prize, just for you gerbils πŸ˜‰

Any ideas what the PSU requirements would be for a pair of the 7870s ?? I have a PCP&C 750w Silencer PSU in the spare parts pile that couldn’t do SLI’d GTX280s, but I will assume (correctly) that these cards are not as power thirsty as those beasts.

It has everything to do with Quebecs politics. They set up so many hurdles and barriers for companies to promote a contest it isn’t worth the hassle.

If I win one of these Crossfire giveaways (including the last giveaway) I PROMISE I’ll give one away here worldwide after benchmarking them. I don’t have to follow the rules, so we can just figure out a way to do it!

I know the draw is random, just putting it out there. For those who can’t enter, there is still a VERY slim chance of winning πŸ˜‰

[quote<]The winner will receive both cards, so they can be teamed up via CrossFire for even higher performance[/quote<] Or, he could give one to each of his two sons, both of whom claim to be in desperate need of [i<]moar power!![/i<] After all, Christmas is coming.... Of course, there's just no fully equitable way to split the games up, so it's probably best that Dad just keep those for himself.... EDIT: Wait a minute, if you purchase one of those cards, [s<]those are the games you get. Shouldn't the winner be getting two copies of each of those?[/s<] EDIT #2: no, they're not; chart-reading fail on my part..... It's OK, Dad still scores. And as always, kudos to the manufacturer for giving TR some decent swag to give away. It would be so easy for them to donate 10 entry-level cards instead, so good on them for donating some high-level gear.

I would like to win this, because I’m plodding along with a lowly 7750…

How long is this card? If it is as long as a 9600GT, but has the PEG sockets at the top, then I can fit it in my Antec 300 (several hard drives).

Edit: BIF, its becuase either Canada hates QuΓ©bΓ©cois, or QuΓ©bΓ©cois hate non-French speaking Canadians. That’s the gist from what a few friends that have lived in Quebec told me.
