There should be a new rule. All winners must post in the winning thread within 48 hours or a new winner is drawn.

Well, thanks a lot – now my kids’ father isn’t getting anything for Christmas. I hope you’re happy, Mr [s<]Scrooge[/s<], er, Scott.

Smoke rises from the videocards doomed, and the hour grows late, and Tom Houston rides to TR seeking thy counsel. For that is why you have come, is it not?

    Gratz.

Isnt this the one that stumbles in windows 8?

      • derFunkenstein

Probably why they didn’t post it yesterday like the announcement originally said.

        • MadManOriginal

Yeah, there was an 86,400,400 ms announcement frametime stutter.

      • rrr

Or does Windows 8 stumble with that card?

    • bcronce

Seems that people with the name “Tom Houston” have an infinitely better chance of winning a Radeon 7970 than people with the name “bcronce”.

At least based on my current dataset.

I think I need to change my name.

i dont think they announce your posting name, only your real name.

        • BobbinThreadbare

And how do you know bcronce isn’t his real name?

    no hdmi

    forget bout it

they do support audio over dvi to hdmi adapters (likely one in the box), but you’re right. HDMI>display port imo. yes it does less, but it’s more ubiquitous.

        • BobbinThreadbare

Can’t both display port and DVI be converted with a simple dumb adapter?

Seems like a non-issue to me.

          • mcnabney

well, the adapter does add an extra inch or two of cabling sticking out the back.

            • sweatshopking

you’re right though, BT, as long as the gpu supports audio over it. my 4850 is using it, but it’s not as nice as it would be native. the adapter is pretty huge.

Why would you care about an HDCP-afflicted, MPAA-contrived, license-cost-ensuing interface locked to 1080p @60Hz on a $400 card that pushes 6MP display setups smoothly?

Displayport is the next logical step from DVI, and if you really want HDMI get a crappy adapter since HDMI is just DVI with DRM.

        • Krogoth

HDMI 1.0 is actually single-link DVI + digital audio channel over a single cable connection. HDMI 1.3 or newer increases the clock speed and can support dual-link DVI which means it can handle the same resolutions as a regular dual-link DVI connection. There are far more HDMI capable displays out there in the marketplace. Displayport also has HDCP build into it as well. You need HDCP in order to render “protected” content at full resolution or it will revert to 480P with standard DD/DTS.

        HDMI = next-generation A/V digital connection

Displayport = next-generation computer video connection
