Here’s a look at the TR BBQ X prize haul

Each year, Adam and I try to bring up some PC hardware to give away at the TR BBQ. Seems like the quantity and quality of the loot just gets better each time, but wow: TR’s sponsors and partners have seriously outdone themselves this year.

As ever, we’ll be giving out prizes—mostly in the form of highly desirable PC hardware—for various reasons, some of them arbitrary. In the past, we’ve handed out the best stuff to the winner of the baggo tourney. We also give something special to the person who has traveled the farthest to attend. I need to make up some other reasons to give away the rest of the stuff, though. Maybe I can do that in the car on the way up.

Point is, you should come. You’ll have a shot at coming away with some portion of the following bounty from the fine folks at Gigabyte, Intel, Kingston, and AMD.

The grand prize for the baggo tournament will be an Intel Core i7-4770K "Haswell" processor and a hyper-fancy Gigabyte Z87X-OC motherboard to go with it.

We also have a trio of AMD A8-6600K processors to give away, and the folks at Gigabyte have generously supplied three more motherboards to go with them: one F2A85X-UP4 and two F2AX85N-WIFI boards.

Not to be outdone, the good people at Kingston have kicked in what may be the ultimate upgrade for those of you who haven’t made the switch yet: two HyperX 240GB SSD upgrade bundles, complete with everything you need to convert a desktop or laptop to speedy, silent solid-state storage.

Maybe one of those should go to a first-time attendee?

Kingston has also thrown in two excellent HyperX Predator 8GB 1866MHz memory kits, which any of us could put to good use.

That’s a lotta prime hardware to be giving away for free. Thanks again to Intel, Kingston, AMD, and Gigabyte for making this crazy prize haul possible. Maybe it’ll help convince a few of the more introverted members of the TR community to come out and interact with us in person.

Oh, and we’ve gotten some exclusive, super-secret custom TR shirts printed up with a brand-new design. We’ll be passing those out, along with as much surplus hardware from Damage Labs as my little car will hold.

Please do join us this weekend. Find all the details and please RSVP in the BBQ forum thread. We’re gonna need a few more people to anchor DrFish’s latest attempt at a giant raft.

Sweet-looking motherboards! Although if I could come I’d personally choose to win an SSD, since that’s all that’s lacking in my rig!

As luck would have it hand me downs with SSD’s began happening in my family. I scored a 240GB Vertex II. I have a big family which helps a lot.

I’d love to come, but a 10 1/2 hour drive is kinda long for just one person. I suppose if there was someone else from the Ottawa, Ontario region going…

All gerbils should make the pilgrimage.
I have tried for two years, but this year, I shall make the journey!

I really should. I’ve always thought it’d be fun. And up until July 1 I was planning on it this year. I’m in the middle of moving, though. The house purchase came up at just the wrong time for the BBQ.

You all have fun. I know there is a first time for everything. So, I’ll get myself there one day.

In the meantime, any way possible we can buy a t-shirt or three with your new design. If nothing else, it is free advertising for you.
