Deal of the week: Cyber Monday edition

For those who didn't get all their shopping done over last week's Black Friday bonanza, Cyber Monday has arrived with a new batch of discounted PC hardware. Well, to be honest, most of deals are recycled Black Friday offers. But there's still lots of good stuff to be had.

There are, of course, loads of other deals out there today. These are the ones that stood out to me—and weren't attached to mail-in rebates. Be sure to check out the full sale pages at Newegg, TigerDirect, Amazon, and Adorama. Feel free to add any good deals you find to the comments below.

I picked up two Kingston’s V300 240GB SSDs for $129.98 total from NewEgg earlier today. That works out to be $64.99 each or 27 cents per GB.

[url<]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820721108[/url<] I used the $30 off $150 PayPal CyberMonday coupon which brought the price down to the $129.98 total ($79.99 x 2 -$30). NewEgg does not charge sales tax whereas TigerDirect does which made NewEgg the better deal.

If only I had more money, I would have totally bought an Intel 4790k for $290 from Newegg the other day along with the Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 for $150. That CPU deal was too good. It does convince me that no one should ever upgrade anything CPU-related except during Black Friday.

Too bad on the constantly selling out Geforce 970’s or we might have gotten a deal on them, too.

There were some great deals on the 480GB Sandisk Ultra Pro (their most recent high-end SSD, generally only surpassed by the Samsung 850 3D NAND SSD) for like $205. I was sooo tempted but held off, I still have 120GB free on my SSD. But given that sales like these will be repeated throughout the next month, I might break down. I’ve never spent the money for a true top-end SSD, but that price is pretty decent.

wait. they’ll just get cheaper over time, and if you have 120gb free, that means YOU CAN INSTALL TITANFALL 2 TIMES.

Another year; another sale in which 1440p or better cannot be had in 30″+ sizes for cheap.

Dell offers an entire i5-8Gb-1Tb system for less than a decent monitor.

I went to the MS store and got them to add the $25 coupon they were offering earlier, so mine was only $75. It’s a great deal even at $99.

I also picked up a Lumia 635 GoPhone for $39. Awesome phone.

fwiw, I highly recommend both of these.

My budget for a new Tablet is 100 bucks. I’ve mentioned before that my Sero 7 LT isn’t quite fast enough and the screen isn’t quite good enough. I can’t complain considering the $65 I paid for it. But I do want something faster and more responsive. This might be the way to go! Thanks for this.

I found some decent deals. I sold my laptop for a smaller profit than I would have liked, but am now building this:
Intel Coreβ„’ i7-4790K Processor, 4.00GHz w/ 8MB Cache
Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H w/ DualDDR3 1600, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit Lan, CrossFireX, HDMI, DVI, D-Sub
Fractal Design Core 1000 Case, Black w/ USB 3.0
IMSI R9 290 GAMING LE Radeon R9 290 4GB PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort
ThermalTake Smart Standard 650W Power Supply
Kingston HyperX FURY Black 8GB DDR3-1600MHz CL10 Dual Channel Kit (2x 4GB)

Did alright. I’ll probably use it for a little while then sell it for a profit. I do well enough building and selling computers and phones. I’m considering flashing that 290 to a 290x, but I’ll have to see. 4% additional performance isn’t a huge deal to me.
It’s TW Attila Time!

Unless something crazy has changed there’s no way I could live with Amazon’s Android branch on my everyday phone. You’d have to pay me a lot more than $200 to deal with that.

He must’ve had that time of the month. He whined about not having access to Google Play (which should be pretty easy to add by sideloading the .apk), and the weird movement-based menu navigation option (that can be turned off).

To me this is an unlocked backup phone with good specs to use in Finland that cost me $99 (since I am a perma-AmazonPrime customer), in case AT&T decides to be a b*tch about things and refuse to unlock my Galaxy S5 six months from now.

I’ve been looking for similar stuff and haven’t found anything good in RAM at all… seems completely uniform at the moment in terms of prices :(. Apparently mobile RAM being more lucrative is part of the blame for the higher prices.

• dmjifn

Yeah, it’s hard to believe this stuff was well under $100 two years ago (says camelcamelcamel). I’ve finally decided to go with Crucial’s “CT2K8G3S160BM” 2x8GB kit which just dropped to $120 on Amazon. It’s “Mac memory” but the specs are right and over dozen reviews saying it works fine in Dell laptops including my own model.

Hmm there doesn’t seem to be any mention of Far Cry 4 in the 1 TB Samsung SSD link. What am I missing?

• Dissonance

It was listed under special offers, but that’s gone now, along with any mention of Far Cry 4 for the other capacities. The bundle was a “while supplies last” deal, so I guess they ran through their allotment of codes.

TigerDirect has the bundle still, albeit with slightly higher prices:

Almost pulled the trigger on a monitor…

Monoprice[/url<] has a 2560x1440 IPS display for $280 (shipping was about $20 for me in Chicagoland). They are also selling through Amazon[/url<] for $300 with free shipping. I didn't pick this up because it does only have a 1-year warranty (compared to 3-5 with similar ASUS offerings), and I would also need to spend a chunk of change on a better graphics card before I would really get the benefit of extra pixels. Also, no adaptive sync options of any flavor.

I got a 28″ 1440p about six months ago for $300, my advice… Just wait. These 4k panels have come down in price so quick, it’s just a matter of time until quality IPS 4k monitors with good refresh rates are at the same price point, with Gsync/Freesync and none of the wonky two panel or whatever issues. I wish I’d waited, but ah well.

note: “240GB for $72.99 at Amazon.”

The link show it at $104, not $72.99

At this rate, next year we have 1GB SSD for ~$150 .

Its actually very possible that 250GB SSD will actually become cheaper then HDD for OEM ?
(at ~$35… )

On another note. The FX-8320 is $104 on amazon, and the new 95w 8310 is $109 at tiger
($99 on friday)

Any thoughts on Creative sound card drivers? I backed out of buying an Asus Xonar when I read some horror stories in the comments section of the system builder guide…

• Takeshi7

They’re fine. I’ve used the same X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro in 3 builds since Vista and I have absolutely no problems on Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit.

I have an original Recon 3D and the drivers are fine. The only issues is a very occasional soundcard crash necessitating a reboot and the panel can be slow to show if I launch it during a game.

Blame part of it on Americans (not the country, but the actual people). Right after Thanksgiving, Americans go into a shopping frenzy worthy of a [i<]National Geographic[/i<] documentary...

• Flying Fox

In Canada the big sale is Boxing Week. These days the Canadian stores are just using the BF/CM names to have another shot at your wallets.

But yes, the exchange rate is going to be a problem, but still not as bad as the close to .60 cents days.

• UberGerbil

Canadians tend to see so much American media that they automatically know about BF/CM, so it makes sense for Canadian retailers to try to leverage that free advertising. Even smarter to use the hype but not actually cut prices by too much.

• anotherengineer

Yes, well at least it used to be. I remember buying LED Christmas lights on boxing day sales for 75% off, about 6+ years ago.

The past 2-3 yrs. I have been trying at Canadian tire and other local stores and at best they are 50% off, and 95% of the time none on the shelf and/or sold out (days before the sale). I went into a few stores on the 24th and the shelves were bare, and with no one working on the 25th, that means the shelves are bare on the 26th. It seems to me that stores seem to be clearing/hiding inventory before the boxing day sales, well at least in my area in recent years, it appears to be.

Maybe I will have better luck this year, but I’m not holding my breath. By then and new years our dollar might be at 78 cents to the US.

Yeah it’s pretty bad… the Intel 730 and this M500 (didn’t know they were still around) are the only nice sales I’ve seen TBH:

lol, that just wont happen. i picked up a “low end” sapphire r7 260x 2gb card for $65 after rebate. it came with 2 games that i plan on flipping on fleabay to get some of my money back.

• meerkt

I’m after something more basic than a 260x. E.g., Slickdeals has a post on a GTX 650 for $35, but with a MIR. So something like a GTX 560 or 460, or Radeon 67xx/77xx seems doable.

• albundy

that gtx 650 is worth jumping on for that price, even with the rebate. i am not sure if these e-tailers stock on cards that old. i would think that inventory is liquidated at a certain point as to not accumulate old stock.

If you aren’t concerned about power consumption, you might be able to find a used mid to mid-high end card from a couple generations back in that price range. That should give you the performance of the current gen low mid range.

Also, if you can wait about a month, after Christmas is a good time to buy used computer stuff on ebay from everyone who got new stuff for Christmas.

• meerkt

Like everyone else said, your just out of luck there dude. Heck, you can barely find Radeon HD5450’s for the price your asking and those are no where near gaming capable! lol

Your best bet would be to scoure Ebay and look for something like a Radeon HD6670 or something. This is the route a friend of mine and I had to go get her a decent entry level gaming machine so she could play Tera Online. Our budget was 300 bones. We found an MSI HD6670 for roughly 50 bucks and was a huge huge improvement over the 5450 I originally set her up with. (Originally she only wanted to watch her Anime on the big screen & didn’t care about gaming at all.)

Here is one – $38.00
[url<]http://www.ebay.com/itm/MSI-ATI-Radeon-HD6670-Graphics-Card-Video-Card-/251740314784?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item3a9ce45ca0[/url<] I'd say raise your budget to at least 60 and you can get some decent performance if you are a casual / budget gamer. Just my two cents.
