So this is what Gordon Freeman’s been up to

It’s now been over seven years since Valve released Half-Life 2: Episode Two. What’s Gordon Freeman been up to in the meantime? This fan video by Fence Post Productions shows one possible scenario:

Poor Gordon. Won’t Valve take pity on him and release Half-Life 3 already? (Thanks to Polygon for the link.)

Gordon got fat and… how does an intergalactic savior become so out of shape?

Please tell me they rendered that on, say, Unreal Engine. Icing on the cake and such.

Also, for once the YouTube comments are worth reading!

[spoiler<]mariotaz - 2 days ago Half-life 3 was cancelled because the voice actor for Gordan Freeman died. R.I.P in peace :/[/spoiler<]

alright, has anyone got a quote to share? I mean, let’s commemorate that poor fella. Anyone? I dunno, a word? I mean, there were so many it’s hard for me to remember something. You know, when there is so much…

Was there a voice actor? I don’t remember him saying anything :/

That was quite well done. The only thing they’re missing is to have the G-Man’s face momentarily flash up on the TV screen when Gordon’s back is turned walking towards the locker, or perhaps right before the chair goes flying into the screen 😉

    That was great.

I think it also works in an in-game context, too, doesn’t it? Wasn’t the g-man keeping Gordon locked in some kind of stasis between HL1 and HL2?

It’s like they set him aside to prep for the next thing, and then just forgot. 🙁

The last few years for me are what I would call ‘The Lost Chapter.’ So.. I can totally relate to Freeman here.

I never found HL2 to be too great. It was playable at least. I did like episode…2? I think?

Anyways I don’t think valve has made a good game in a long time. L4D wasn’t made by them and l4d2 adds a lot of unresponsive gameplay which really hurts it.

    edit—–

That video was actually really well made.

Yes to all of the above, bar kittens.

Half-Life 1 is what really got me hooked. HL2 didn’t quite excite me as much either, for whatever reason. I dunno, maybe it just didn’t feel as HL as the first game.

The story in HL-1 is IMHO much more mysterious and enjoyable.

In HL-1 you are a scientist among many others, and you’re going to work like any other day, then you perform the experiment and bad things happen… The government is called in but they’re not there to help… it really is you alone lost in a big secret government fascility and you have to deal with the situation and survive best you can with no idea what comes next.

In HL-2 it more of a full on war against the combine. You are Gordon Freeman, legendary hero of the day. The combine = bad guys. Here’s your crowbar sir, now go whack em. That’s not to say that the story isn’t well done and has its own progression, there’s just less mystique going on.

If HL-1 is Alien, then HL-2 is Aliens. You get the picture.

“If HL-1 is Alien, then HL-2 is Aliens. You get the picture.”

That’s actually a pretty good analogy. That said, I really like both games a lot for different reasons. HL1 is just amazing for what it did in it’s day. It STILL stands up well on it’s own.

Yupp, just like Alien and Aliens I too think they are both good for different reasons.

Have you played Black Mesa? [url<]http://www.blackmesasource.com/[/url<] Amazing work right there.

If HL-3 is in production they shouldn’t announce it, they should just release it on steam when it’s done.

No previews, no warnings, no hints, no nothing. Just one morning you wake up and Half-Life 3 is on the front page of steam available for purchase.

That would be the coolest launch ever made and people would go MENTAL over it.

It makes perfect sense when you think about it, HL-3 is so big that they don’t need to hype or market it. And there is no way you could attract more attention than doing a crazy ass launch like that.

      • brucethemoose

It shouldn’t even be on the front page. You’d have to search for it to find it, so some random Steam shopper would run into it and start a frenzy.

It should be in the free to play section for the first 333 buyers.

Yeah, reminded me of how great HL2 was. I remembered playing for hours to get through it not only because the gameplay was really well done but the story was engaging. I WANTED to find out what happened to the characters. I might fire this game up soon.

We’re in Duke Nukem territory now, sad to say. The game could never live up to the pent-up expectations.

well, it’s Half-Life, so is only a half of a successful game’s life cycle. Thus no HL3 and HL4. They are the other half…

Cool, and sad at the same time, video, I liked the blue cans that you get from the vending machines in the game =))))

      • njoydesign

on a second thought… can you actually buy canned beer from vending machines? Does that mean that Gordon seems to get awfully drunk from just drinking soda?
