Scott is on the ground at GDC this week, and he spent this morning learning more about the Vulkan graphics API at Valve's glNext presentation. Most notably, Scott learned that Vulkan is indeed an offshoot of AMD's Mantle API. But that's not all:
Vukan completely exposes that GPU is a separate processor, runs asynchronously to the CPU.— Scott Wasson (@scottwasson) March 5, 2015
Intel/Linux driver for Vulkan will be open-sourced. Vulkan supported across the board on Steam machines.— Scott Wasson (@scottwasson) March 5, 2015
Vulkan consists of multiple layers: application, loader, validation, counter, driver. Layers are optional and can be disabled.— Scott Wasson (@scottwasson) March 5, 2015
We've collected all of Scott's tweets from the session in a Storify feed, which you can view here. There's more interesting stuff in there, so be sure to check it out.
