Telltale Games was at Minecon this past weekend with plenty to share regarding the previously-announced Minecraft: Story Mode. From what I can tell from the trailer, there's a plot—unlike the original game—and you can make a sword. Have a look at the trailer.
Telltale's five-part episodic adventure will take players through the world of Minecraft, including the regions of Nether, the Farlands, and the End. The game will be available on every platform under the sun, including PC, Mac, last-gen and current-gen consoles, iOS and Android.
GamesRadar sat in on a post-reveal panel with Telltale's Job Stauffer and got some more information about how the studio is integrating Minecraft's story-free, multiplayer-driven gameplay into a more traditional game. "We wanted to work that into a story that really evokes classic film stories that we really were passionate about. The movies we grew up with. The two that we called out were Goonies and Ghostbusters. We all grew up with those. Films from 1985. Movies that they just don’t make anymore... We wanted to create a story that could be for all ages and bring generations together."
When it comes to the voice talent involved, Telltale pulled out all the stops. The main character Jesse is voiced by Patton Oswalt, and Ashley Johnson of The Last of Us plays Petra. Additional voice actors confirmed by PCGamer include 1980s teen idol Corey Feldman and Billy West of Futurama.
