Cougar’s 550M mouse lights up your life with 16 million colors

Mouse preference is a personal choice. We all have different hands and our own personalities. Some mice are utilitarian, while others feature customizable shapes and sensorsCougar's 550M eschews all that and cranks the bling to eleven. Sure, it ticks all the right boxes: it has a braided cable, a 6400-dpi optical sensor, and on-the-fly-adjustable DPI levels. The six buttons can be customized using Cougar's UIX software, and personal settings (including macros) can be stored in any of three onboard profiles. That's all pretty standard fare for a gaming mouse, though.

The glow of the two-tone backlight system, on the other hand, shows everybody how 1337 you are. The 3-stage DPI indicator LEDs and a strip under the palm rest each hold independently-tunable lights that you can set to any of a palette of 16.8 million colors.

The 550M is set to be available world-wide in late July or early August with a suggested price of $59, and it'll be available in gray and metallic blue finishes.

Another mouse that looks like a SEMA confabulation, yet the MX518 remains firmly euthanized. What a cruel world.

Dear hardware companies: Adults exist who are happy to use GAMING HARDWARE!!! that looks identical to normal hardware. Just saying.

Do yourself a favor and get yourself a mouse with a sensor that tracks well. Ignore the bling.

Functionality over looks any day of the week…but my cheapo 32-39$ Logitech G402 does light up blue to match my old Black Widow Ultimate keyboard that is still working like a charm..knocks on wood.

Why can’t theuy make mouses “light” on specs?

So why do we need another mouse that is functionally identical to every other gaming mouse on the market? Not picking on Cougar here, but there is a metric buttload of mice almost identically shaped like this.

Where are the experimental forms? Three button mice (my personal favorite), claw mice, MMO mice that have more usable function buttons?

The market seems to have completely given up on trying new things.

I just wish some one besides Logitech would produce a track ball similar to the M570. Logitech uses the cheapest micro switches they can find.

My mouse lights up any one of 7 colours, but I prefer to turn the lights off because no mouse needs lights.

I’m most concerned by the fact that someone is going to manage neon poop color.

Some shade equivalent to the “brown note”?

Yeah. God, don’t let anyone stumble onto that at QuakeCon. It’d be chaos of an unprecedented order, and at least a few nice custom rigs would probably be ruined.

I’m going to hold out for one with an IPS panel. 😛

I like the textured sides, and the body color scheme is consistent with their fans–which I use. As for the number of LED colors, I ain’t convinced until it hits the Damage labs and every color is counted individually–that’s the only way to be sure.

    EDIT: Corrected “countered” to “counted”
