Step aside, Pillars of Eternity—there's a new RPG with pausable real-time combat coming to town, called Masquerada: Songs and Shadows. Check out the reveal trailer here and the gameplay trailer below:
Masquerada is an isometric "2.5D" RPG set in the Venice-inspired city of Ombre, where masks are the key to power. The game puts you in the fancy clothes of Inspettore Cicero Gavar, who's returned from exile to investigate a kidnapping "that will shake up the foundations of the city."
The game is built with vivid, comic-book-like graphics. The developers cite French comic books and games like Bastion as influences, something I find refreshing in this age of heavily-tessellated 3D models.
Masquerada: Songs and Shadows is set to emerge from the shadows in early 2016.
