Early deals of the week: a hopped-up GTX 970 for $280 and more

Happy Friday Thursday, gerbils. Yes, we're bringing you this week's best deals a day early, because some of them are on a clock and too good to ignore. Let's get right to it.

  • Newegg has EVGA's GeForce GTX 970 SSC graphics card for $279.99—no codes or rebates necessary. This isn't any base-model GTX 970, either. The SSC designation means it's factory-overclocked to 1190MHz base and 1342MHz boost speeds. That price is good through 11:59 PM PT tonight.

  • Newegg also has Corsair's Vengeance LPX DDR4-2400 16GB memory kit on sale for $89.99. These DIMMs run at slightly faster speeds than the Corsair DDR4 16GB kit we selected for our System Guide, and they're less expensive right now, too. Other DDR4-2400 16GB kits at this price point have looser timings. If you need memory for a Skylake build, these look like a good step up over plain-Jane DDR4-2133 RAM.

  • Need a decent-sized chunk of solid-state storage for cheap? Newegg is selling SanDisk's Ultra II 480GB SSD for $129.99 with promo code ESCKANX24. That makes it one of the cheapest 500GB-class SSDs available right now. The 960GB Ultra II proved a solid performer in our review, so this 480GB version seems like a good bet for the price.

  • If the GTX 970 above is too rich for your blood, Newegg has EVGA's GeForce GTX 960 FTW 4GB graphics card for $189.99—just $10 more than the cheapest 2GB 960s. The extra RAM versus lesser 960s could provide a small dose of future-proofing, and this card's factory-bumped 1304MHz base and 1367MHz boost clocks aren't anything to scoff at, either.

  • Looking for a PSU upgrade? Newegg has SeaSonic's SS-660XP2 660W PSU on sale for $99.99 after promo code EMCKANW23. This 80+ Platinum-certified unit is the PSU that powers my personal PC, and I can attest that its fully-modular design and semi-fanless operation are well worth the price of admission. SeaSonic is offering an additional $20 mail-in rebate on top of this deal, which could bring the grand total down even further. Like the GTX 970 deal above, this discount turns into a pumpkin at 11:59 PM PT this evening.

Those are the best deals we could find this week. If we missed a frighteningly good discount somewhere, be sure to share with other gerbils in the comments.

I just got the GTX 960 FTW for my brother’s new build. It should last until Pascal, hopefully.

FTW class card like the Classified cards most of the time have a dual or triple bios switch allowing you to flash the bios with no fear of bricking the card.you can do a lot of things when you mod your bios like upping your power target set higher voltage, base and boost clocks etc. It can allow you to get a lot more out of your card than a basic overclock. Also the cards with bios switches have beefed up VRMs and are built alot better than the OEM boards so they can take the extra juice as long as you do not go crazy and put in LN2 voltages.
Actually I wish all cards came with a dual bios switch even if they are identical, Like my 5 year old Gigabyte P67-UD4-B3 motherboard came with dual bios in case during a bios update you have a power failure or a corrupted file when updating your Bios you will not brick the MB.

Jesus those are some nice deals all at once.

It’s good to see the 970 start to drop in price and ddr4 match recent ddr3 pricing. And the respectable ssd and psu are great as well.

If you had to pick a single week to get all parts for a decent gaming machine, This wouldn’t be the worst time to do it.

That’s the lowest price I’ve seen on that SeaSonic since last year Black Friday when it $90-ish (I’ve been watching it intending to buy one). Buy Buy Buy!!!

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted unless it’s simply [url=http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/grandma-cool-story-bro.jpg<]this[/url<].

Pretty sure there’s someone who downvotes me regularly because my personality rubs them the wrong way. Don’t know who it is, don’t really much care. More secure than to worry about whether I’m important or not on the Internets. =)

And I was really trying to say that a Seasonic Platinum PSU is not a purchase anyone will regret. Been happy with mine.

I have the same problem, others have the same problem. It’s an anonymity issue.
Basically the takeaway, thumbs don’t count for anything. Replies do.

This is the same power supply that I used in my previous two builds. I’ve managed to buy them at the same price, but it takes patience (or stock-piling one as your spare PSU).

Nice deals. That 970 looks like a great bargain.
